night Is no easy task but Ian Oldaker la going to try The lighting designer for the Georgetown Little Theatres upcom Ing production of On Golden Pond Mr Oldaker is to create a sunset every night on the John Elliott Theatre stage The problem the lighting designer has to blend the effect of the sunset to give the audi enough light to see players Mr Olda ker said In an inter view It must be done subtly so It doesnt come across as artificial All the scenes In this play are set Indoors so tbe sunset will be creat outside the big IAN DARKER As the sun gets lower and the scene gets darker the actors will have to put on lights to make visible to their audience Out side the windows as It gets darker therell be the lights of other collages In the distance another effect created by Mr Oldaker The lights on the stage are turned on by the actors but theyre con trolled by the lighting people offstage For evening scenes more yellow lights are used to give a warmer color Daylight scenes have a hint of blue light Good lighting be intrusive so that its noticed by the audience It should be subtle Mr Oldaker said SIDELIGHTS Light Is never direct straight onto faces of the actors for It would give them a very flat uninteresting face Instead lights come from the side at degree angles This way they give moulding to the face the said Mr became Involved in staga light through his Interest in portraiture An old rule of thumb In theatre Is that you can t hear the actors If theyre not well lit you have difficulty see ing them you have dlfficuty hearing them That not likely to be the case in On Golden Pond As far as lighting Mr says the play doesnt demand any thing out of the ordl nary However because Its a big set it needs to be carefully lit with the emphasis on the actors faces and not the props UPERB CAR CARE tymnet k Interior A Exlerior Car Cleaning Low Inw regular rates Dealer rates available St Georgetown 8775718 Unchallenged sax King A phone whirl win Is the way Cres cendo
