Hiring a full lime emergency planning co ordinator is just like buying life insurance the regional chairman said last week Chairman Peter said its a relatively Inexpensive item on the 1985 regional budget books which pre pares the region for emergencies like the train derail merit in November He was supporting the Chief Administrative Officer s recommenda tion that the position be made permanent For the last two years the region has hod an emergency planning co ordinator thanks to an Ontario Municipal Train Program that ends in July Adehna has been developing plans which would prepare agencies and private organizations lo handle an emergency should one arise Top priority on list of projects that still need to be done Is a Centennial Manor evacuation plan an emergency plan for the day care centres and coordinating evacuation plans with the four municipalities and fire chiefs However It not enough that plans be developed there has to be emergency practices and exercises If the majority of the people in an organization do not know how to respond in an emergen then the existence of a plan will not assist in the response for the time of an emergency is not a time for reading
