Friday night was fitting way for Kennedy to end four years of being a Georgetown Gemini The Central Ontario Junior League veteran was named the Most Valuable Player at the teams awards banquet The dinner and dance event was held at the Georgetown Legion Kennedy said he was not expecting the award and added it was a good thing ho did not have to make a speech You get up there and your heart Is pounding he said It was excellent Looking back the captain said his high and low points with the team came in the same year The year being when the met Strcctsvltte Derbies in the league final The high point was beating Oak lie and Thosetwo teams might have been better on paper but we got there because we had the heart The low point I guess was when Streelsvllle beat us by something like 17 or 17 3 It was hard being humiliated by The Derbies ended up winning the final in four straight games Another painful memory for Kennedy came the next season when an optimist Gemlnis crew looking to repeat their feat of the previous year lost out to Mimlco in the first round of the playoffs It Is always an honor o hold the C on any club I did not find It diffi cult being he team captain because this team was young and I had the respect of the players and I respected them too We should have gone to the final and won he said We had the talent and almost the exact team of the year before But like the year before when we had the heart that year Mlmico had the heart We had the talent but they had more heart and desire When a player Is In his final year of eligibility it is natural for him to want to go out a winner and Kennedy admits he was no different Oh yeah everyone wants to win a championship and it was hard playing for a team that was not as strong as the team two years ago but you adjust to it It seems like when a player Is in his last year he says he would like to go out a winner and he tries to go wherever he can But Ive been well treated here and I will always be supportive of the organization he said This season Kennedy became the team captain midwaythrough the year He said he did not feel any extra pressure at having to be the leader on the ice It Is always an honor to hold the C on any club I did not find It difficult being the team captain because this team was young and I bad the respect of the players and respected them too After last years fourth place finish the finished eighth and met Barrie Colts in the opening round Although the Geminls lost the series the team and executive take pride in being able to say their series was probably he toughest one the eventual league champions had to play Everyone seems to be looking forward to the upcoming year a year that will sec Kennedy uncharacteristically out of a Gems uniform Of course feel bad about having to leave with having been there for so long and being on the Ice four times a week I will miss It but you have Beaumont nets six points in win Brian Beaumont had two goals and four assists to pace OTooles to a win over Exchange House In the Georgetown Mens Non Contact Hockey League final series The win narrows Exchange Houses lead to In the best six point series Paul Martin had existed here The new executive elected to keep the team name Sabres a meeting held Thursday the Acton Legion There had been a few suggestions to change name to Tanners but such a move would have resulted In loss of the teams Incorporation The incorporation came when former Sabres president Frank Allsop took over the Junior B team five years ago Incorporation meant the new executive then would not be personally responsible for any debts the hockey club incurred In order to keep the Incorporation intact the official team name could not be changed from what it was registered as which was Acton Sabres Hockey Club Inc At Ihe last meeting March it was said If the team name changed and the Junior executive wanted to incorporate the new team name it would have to reapply to the province That would cost about It was said at the meeting Club president Ed Thomson and vlceprcsl dent Bruce Corgi 11 looked Into the Issue and said It would cost the new team to reapply for Incorporation but not as much as was stated at the last meeting He did not say Just how much less it would be However said money was not the only reason for keeping the Sabres name The Impression we got talking with
