barracking offici als Any layman reading his column would think that members of this learn were unruly and committed infractions against referees on the field of play This could not be further from Ihe truth The fads are that a few members of this team attended wo games involving other learns as spectators As spectators they have the same rights as ny other spectator attending a sporting event whether it be hockey basketball or football There ore times when referees to make bad calls and as an old referee myself I usually found that the spectators would let me know first for all play ers and coaches were well aware that I was quite capable of handing out discipline if they opened Ihur mouths too loudly I remember many years ago when I first received my Scottish Football Association Referee certificate the old timer instructing us Informed me From now on youre blind and if you don know it right now the spectators mil convince you His point was that referees should not listen to spectators comments or they lose control oft he game Spectators have been and always will be an integral part of the game of soccer The fact that they attend means that they are enthusiastic about the
