candidate In the municipal election Does it take charisma the diplomacy of Henry Kissinger or a certificate in public speaking No You just have to follow the right bureaucratic procedures First you must be nominated Ten people eligible to vote for the position you seek must sign your nomination form Town of Halton Hills between a and 30pm Oct 17 between a and Oct You must also qualify A person must be three things a resident or landowner of Hills and a Canadian or other British subject as of Oct and at least IB years of age before polling day Trustees must fulfill the three qualifications and meet one more requirement A candidate for the Public School Board must be a public school elector and a Roman Catholic Separate Board candidate must be a separate school elector Candidates for the HydroElectric Commission must fulfill the three qualifications If you ha ve made it this far in your quest for office youre not safe yet Candidates can be disqualified Employees of the town school board and commissioners or overseers of work commissioned by the town under Section2S2oftheMunlcipalActarenot eligible A Judge member of the Senate Houseof Commons or a member or the Assembly Isnt eligible as outlined In the Legislative Act Trustee candidates con be dis qualified if they are a member of another school board a member council or an elected member of a local board as outlined by the Municipal Affairs Act If the trustee candidate is a member of one of these organizations they con qualify if their term has no more than two months to go after they file for nomination If they submit a letter of resigns lion with the school board or the clerk of Hills their nomination will be accepted A trustee can not be the Clerk Deputy Clerk Treasurer or Deputy Treasurer of or Halton voter notification card Voters lists will be published Oct IS To qualify as voter you must be a resident 3 to Oct 23 a Canadian citizen or British subject and IB years old as of polling day If you meet these requirements but are not on the voters list you can still vote Before Oct 23 visit the clerks office at the Town Office on Trafalgar Road fill out the right form and your name wilt appear on the voters list election day If Oct has slipped by and you are not on the voters list you con still get on through the clerks office If It Is election day and are still not on the list go to your polling place where the deputy returning officer will give you an oath form entitling you to vote Advance polls are provided Nov 2 at Trinity United Church at Mill St East in Acton the Town Office on
