College may have moved their Toronto- private school to Thai and a lack or funds stopped the move School Director Don Kawasoe said Instead what the boys school has on its acres is the Norval Outdoor School which has its entrance on Winston Churchill Boulevard The chief purpose of the school is to promote conservation and to help students feel comfortable and confident in the outdoors Mr said Some students of the downtown Toronto school dont get the country very often and this gives them that opportunity The property is used mostly by prep school Grades to and students spend as long a week at a time on the land There are three main buildings on the property One is a house for Properly Supervisor Jack Dray he has been there 10 years The oilier buildings arc the Stephen House built in 1965 and House built in 1939 The houses ore where the boys stay cat learn and more When the land was bought in 1913 most of it was farmland Since then has been reforested to create a buffer between the school and the encroaching outside world It was Ihe Noble farm before 1913 Over 15 years ago a teacher at Upper Canada College starting bringing out Grade boys spend a week in Norvnl They planted trees performed stream studies and camped out The program has blossomed since then and now it is an important part of an Upper Canada College students education What is taught at the Campus relates lo what is taught in the classroom Mr Kawasoe said pretty good stories about this place Mr Kawasoe said Upper Canada College is in the middle of making long range plans for the school Those plans arc complicated by development around theproperty The school is quite Independent but keeps in touch with planning departments in Hallon Hills ana Peel Right now they are concerned about a proposed landfill site in Peel is close to the school It could mean increased traffic and damage to the ground water Mr said The school has had some problems with hunting and littering on its land They do not
