sounded and the race was on as the Halton Hills Blue Fins compiled results at the Southport Op timists Swim Meet held In Port Elgin lost weekend This meet was international in scope with right teams competing which included the Base Borden Barracudas the Breakers Swim Team Swim Club Owen Sound Aquatic Club Brablic Barons United States St Thomas Jumbo Jets and the Woodstock Swim Club The meet produced some im pressive performances as nine per social records were broken or In some cases shattered The blue Fin decided to attend this meet In lieu a trip to the CASA Quod A Championships in Thunder Bay mainly due to the long distance they would have to travel and the transportation and accommodation costs Involved It was the feeling of parents club executive members and especially It is one of the mandates of the Recreation and Parks Depart men I to encourage residents volunteer for local recreation a no- sporting organizations to participate in Coaching and Developmental Workshops and Clinics It Is our belief that the lion Its participants and the community benefit as the calibre of recreation and sport will Improve fostering a greater sense of Identity and pride in our community In addition to sponsoring workshops and clinics in the com our department will dally subsidize any volunteer who la presently Involved or intends to become involved in a local recrea or sporting organization when they successfully complete training workshop The Sport Governing Bodies of On also keep us Informed of workshops and clinics available In neighbouring municipalities so we may encourage our volunteers to at tend In residents took ad vantage of our halfback training subsidy program In addition to Increasing the pleasure of participating to those already involved It is also a man date of our department to provide af programs so all residents can participate in recreation the swimmers that organizers the Optimists meet should be commended for sponsor a meet of such a high calibre And the other clubs providing stiff competition the meet turned out to be very exciting A number of people working on behalf of he local club deserve special thanks Including Peter who looked after hotel ac lions attending coaches Tiffany Goodlct and Tina Newman as well as coaches Jill and Rob McGulgon who were unable to make it to the meet Keith Glllelt and Geoff Newman for their in valuable assistance and club dent Lynda Glen was first in the J freestyle second in wm freestyle individual medley and backstroke and third In 100m but James Young was second in the 100m backstroke third In but terfly and Individual medley and fourth in 100m freestyle was third In the butterfly while Matthew Zurnw was third In the Leisure Lines We do this by discounts to those in need Any Senior Citlien or disabled per son in Hal ton Hills receives a per cent discount to participate in a deportment program wllh the the discount already built Into the fee Children of low income families who require financial assistance to participate In our programs are eligible for a subsidy The Optimist Club of Georgetown financially assists our department annually so children of low Income families can attend our summer programs Children registered in our sum programs for the entire eight weeks are eligible for a per cent discount Our department also offers a family discount of 10 per cent for each additional child of the same family when hey participate In the some program session Our department feels inert are many benefits of participating in recreational opportunities Through our
