what you are seeking Books In the educational field are written at and for all working levels of photography from amateur to working profes sional and It is here where you should start out Two very fine books that I often recommend to people ore I Michael Freeman Basic Photography and John Basic Photography Both are packed with an abundance of how to Information and are loaded with many great photographs They are written In a straight forward style and proceed assuming that the reader has no working knowledge in other words they will take you along one step at a time The second of the two books Is only the first volume In a three volume set that en compass a basic on intermediate and an advanced level series that will start your reference library with good solid materia Two other good choices would be the current Kodak scries of how to books designed to build a reference library and the now somewhat famous The TimeLife set of books although expensive can be purchased in dlvidually as can the Kodak books and nave been recently revised to provide you with the very latest up to date technical Information If you are already quite knowledgeable and comfortable with more technical reading one of the finest set of books ever written on photography is Ansel Adams Light Film and the Camera They were revised by the author just prior to his death a few years ago and they are considered by many to be the Bible for serious photography Please remember though that they really are technical John also has a large format book about 10 x In size titled The Big Book of Photography this particular volume Is laid out Into separate Idea compartments that allow the reader to sample visually and by text a wide variety of different shooting problems and situations that you may have
