up their farms The families have owned the land for generations and ire in dire A vote of thanks is given to ayle for hosting the meeting Herald Special The Untouchables Is Brian latest film a reworking of old television series I never did see the scries so I can not moke any comparisons The film takes us back to 1930 Chicago the heyday of Al Ness Treasury agent comes to Chicago to clean up the city and put away Together with his trio of men Ness and company become the Untouchables officers who on not be bribed The film Is highly stylistic old to in all its glory and decadence It is also very violent often It is difficult to watch The blood flows more freely than the the root of all m One particularly sickening scene has Caponc an speech to his cronies by taking a baseball bat and a man to death at Ihe dinner tabic Now that would anyone indigestion I did not do a count but 1 think It was pretty high And very We all know that will end up in jail on lax evasion the suspense comes from wailing to see which will be killed And killed they will be there no doubt about it would tike miracles to save these men Kevin is Ness straight and a family Is very convincing is man to murder by ihe violence of Capone and his associates Stan is James in Irish cop who takes Ness under his wing and tutors him in the fine art of law enforce ment is very good although his accent Is a Utile suspicious it times Charles Martin Smith is an from Washington w ho joins Ness and becomes gun lolmg crusader Ik Is the one who that can be jailed for tax evasion Smith is grot as undersized playing cops and robbers Andy Is eery Stone the last member of the sure shot with slick The movie belongs to Robert Niro though His is so vile so violent so arrogant by the end of the film It almost made me sick to look him De Niro gained weight and shaved hair to look convincing And he Is convincing one forgets all his roles he is Capone Inside and out The fun loving gangster who loves lo do his own work with the Chicago press Joking about violence as If he had never even kill a fly becomes a monster in the next scene a man so cruel and so corrupt that he exudes evil You can almost smell It Capone thinks he is beyond the law he has everyone from the cop on the beat to the mayor on his payroll He Is astoun dingly arrogant he would try to bribe St Peter at the gate and he would expect to get into heaven by this He would hove no doubts There Is no glamour In this portrait there Is charm but it is superficial and sickening and becomes more revolting as the movie goes on This performance alone makes the movie worth watching I think this is a very good film although 1 did not really like It because it was so violent and It made me very tense But as I have said the acting Is good and is brilliant If you have a strong it a movie for the kids Bible study for women An bible study for women is being held each Tuesday from 15 a m until nam at the Climtian Reformed Church There will be
