apartment By BRIAN Herald Staff Regional council voted Nov to accept a proposal to open a new transfer station in Burlington and close down the current station at the landfill site Council voted in favor of the new station Halton Hills councillors were split about the proposal Rick Bonne and Pom Sheldon voted against the new station John McDonald Marilyn Serjeantson and Iluss Miller supported the station The other three councillors who voted against the proposal were Milton Mayor Gordon Kranti Milton BUI Johnson ana MlllonCoun Brad Clements The decision has short term plications for Hills tax payers Because council decided to ap prove equalization costs for haulage fees a move Hills has long been fighting for waste disposal costs will only go up on next years tax bill according to Coun Marilyn Serjeantson Hills currently pays the haulage costs for waste from the transfer station in Georgetown to the Burlington dump But the Region will be exporting per tent of its waste over the next three die years so decided to equalize the haulage costs Although the waste disposal bill will Increase by per resident In Ha Hon next year here in Halton Hills each taxpayer will pay only more because of the equalized outage cos Is The decision to build the new transfer station will cost the Region anywhere between S3 and million more than the cheapest alternative few years The cheapest
