adjudicator for the ACTCO Festival was in attendance at the Nov performance of Kiss Me Kate and he made many positive comments about the show Globe always looks forward to these ad Judications provided by the Association of Community Theatres Central Ontario for they always provide a beneficial critique of Its productions Though the lion Globe hopes to improve upon their skills in the Globes interpretation of The Princess Bride By NADEAU Herald Special At last a movie for the whole family that is funny thrilling and romantic No It a not Cinderella but The Princess Bride This Is Rob Reiner s latest film and It Is a delightful satire of the movies that were fashionable several decades ago It is also a slight twist on the popular fairy ales It has It all an evil prince a beautiful princess to- be a young man ennobled by true love a couple of warmhearted villains a nasty Count and an eccen tric hagcouple in the woods Add some gorgeous scenery and a delicious sense of humour and you have a small feast You have The Princess Bride The movie is actually a book read by a sagacious grandfather to his relic tan i and captive grandson The grandson is sick In bed and unwill gives up his video games to listen to this silly book Within minutes he and the audience are The tale follows the adventures of Buttercup a beautiful maiden and Wesley her true love Wesley goes off to seek his fortune and is reported dead murdered by the evil Pirate Roberts Five years alter his death Butter cup has become betrothed to the handsome but oh so evil Prince She is kidnapped by the hilarious short and conceited Vezzini Wallace Shawn and his henchmen Montoya and Andre the Giant Fortunately a masked man follows them and rescues her killing Vczzini but letting the two honourable bandits live Fair banks or I found his moustache annoying But I think Reiner intended Wesley to look a lit tie bit silly as Inigo Mon is terrific a villain by finan cial need but a true hero at heart His looks and especially his voice are very reminiscent of Gene Kelly Andre the Giant is the giant with a heart of gold Wallace Shawn Is hysterical as the doomed Vezzini Mel Smith of Alas Smith and Jones is the philosophical albino hump back Peter Cook a favourite of mine Is the lisping prelate forced to rush through the marriage vows Chris Sarandan plays the scheming Prince Humperdinck Christopher Guest Is Count the Prince henchman a coward with a scientific bent Describe ex actly what kind of pain you are feel record it for posterity Billy Cristal and Carol Kane are the feuding and hilarious cronies who try to revive Wesley So give me a paper cut and squeeze lemon on it why don t you Robin Wright Is the beautiful Buttercup dreadful name and Peter the narrator grandfather Although Cinderella was the big attraction last Sunday matinee the kids that were In the theatre with me seemed to love the movie If you like satires that work like This Is Spinal Tap and unlike Spaceballs then this movie Is perfect for you And for those of us who miss pirates and this is a totally satisfying walk down a well loved path Kiss Me Kale He acknowledged he originality and artistic flair that Shirley Ashenden as director ap plied to the show He was extremely complimentary regarding the talents of Terry Champ as musical director Evelyn Webster s unique and Imaginative choreography also impressed Mr Mr MacDonald made a special mention of the stage management and technical moves He was also impressed with the costumes at were both authentic and colour Tut Mr also bad positive comments regarding the sets fur nishings props lighting make up and many other aspects of the pro duction of Kiss Me Kate Sandy stated that Globe is noted for their excellent choral work and that Kiss Me Kate is continued proof of this His Impres sions of Debbie In the roles of Kate and LI Hi were quite favorable He enjoyed Debbie singing voice facial expressions and overall con trol Sandy stated that Brian Hodgson as Fred and resents a good Image on the stage e particularly liked Brian vocal presence In his role Lois played by also got a good review maintains an accent throughout the show which Mr MacDonald identifies Is quite hard Mr MacDonald also enjoyed Ron Cheneys characterization of BUI and He feels that Ron acting skills sell the songs that he performs Gord McLeod ana Ken Gorin as the two gangsters also got wonderful reviews Sandy enjoyed the personal details that these two gentlemen put in to the characters Other performers who received positive acknowledgement from Mr MacDonald were Colin Harry Braginet Hat tie Keith Mills Paul Vic Dunleavy Harrison Phil and Gil Cranio Mr MacDonald really enjoyed the danc ing which displalyed a good sense of style he also had favorable com menu
