meeting A was read from treasurer Fred Clarkson and his wife Marg for the gift of a Bateman painting George Smith and David Dunlop are the new elders to replace outgoing elders Fred Paul and Joe Van A vote of thanks was given Rev Walter Ridley for chairing the meeting as he had done for the past 23 years Rev Ridley will be leaving at the end of June Get well wishes NORVALGet well wishes to Fisher of Georgetown who is convalescing at her sister Irene Bloors house following 12 days In Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital Get well wishes also go out to Catherine Leslie RR4 Georgetown who is convalescing at home following a threeweek stay in Georgetown hospital Tribute paid NORVALHillcrest United Church was full to overflowing on Jan 2 as family friends and neighbors of Elizabeth Liz Bird Howden paid tribute to this popular young woman Liz beloved wife Doug Howden was married in September at Hillcrest Church and had taken up residence in Milton Road conditions caused her car to swerve out of control on the morning of Dec 28 resulting in serious injuries Following her transfer to Sunnybrook Medical Centre she passed away Dec Liz was the loved daughter of George and Verna Bird Georgetown and daughterinlaw of Arnold and Marie Howden of Milton Dear sister of I Marilyn Charles David and Ronald and law of Paul and her fiance Terry Gracey Also loved by grand- parents Vernon Picket and Dougs grandparents George and Marshall of Milton Liz was born and raised on her parents Eighth Line farm just south of Georgetown She attend ed Pinevfew and Stewarttown Public Schools and Georgetown District High School She also at tended Sheridan College in Brampton for business ad ministration Liz was a member of Hillcrest Church where she attended Sun day school and later worked as a teacher She completed brownies and guides and was a candy strip per at Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital Liz held her first parttime job at Pine Valley Farms in and for recrea she played volleyball with the ladies She was a member in Life Style Club as well as agriculture clubs and she helped lead two 4H clubs at Homby South Liz was princess in 1978 More Junior Farmers played a major role in her life as this is where she met her husband Doug Her first full job of two years was with the accounting firm of Wilson and in Bramalea Liz was employed at Noxell Canada in Mississauga as an accounting clerk in the ac counts receivable department Rev Jean Jones of Church conducted the service In her eulogy she said we are here to celebrate the life of Liz But We have been richly blessed God has generous in his Lizs joyful energy her gentle encouragement her quiet sense of humor were ours to enjoy and ours to treasure She lived fully and beautifully until she died We are richer because Elizabeth has shared part of the journey through life with us For a precious and beautiful life we give God thanks Rev John Shearman of Paler mo United Church where the family attended assisted in the service Pallbearers were her cousins Stewart and John McPhail neighbor Alan Cunningham and friends Tom WhitnaD Bruce ield and Jeff Stephenson Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery Milton mourns Com munity is in mourning again as the grandfather of Liz Bird who died on Dec 29 Vernon Picket was found by his daughter Verna in his RR3 home on Jan 28 Just the week before he had been on a day trip with the Norval neighbors His daughter Verna had been over the day before but when she returned the next day she found her father gone Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Ball and dear father of Verna and her husband George Bird Georgetown Doris and her husband Alan of Ac ton and Larry Picket and his wife Mary of Clifford Lovingly remembered by his six grand children as well as brother Claude Picket sisters Margaret Gladys Lister and Edna and brother John Picket Predeceased by Dorothy Hayward Harry Picket and Edith Sincere sympathy is extended this time Euchre results euchre had six tables last Monday Winners were Mae Brander Prairie Bessey tied Keith Webb and Ethel Webb Winner of the lucky draw was Irene Goodfellow The committee consisted of Claude McLaughlin and Irene Goodfellow 40th anniversary people from the area attended the wedding anniversary of John and Jewel Lyons of Cheltenham The open house was held at the Jim Archdeakin Recreation Centre Brampton on Jan 29 from 2pm to 4 Their family of daughter Shelly Craig and her husband Steve of Cheltenham Alan and his wife Alice of Mansfield Paul David and his wife Judy and Donald all of Cheltenham and Robert of Burlington assisted in receiving around guests Nine grandchildren as well as Johns stepmother Muriel Lyons and Jewels father Alfred Gougeon all enjoyed the party Time for Teddy It was picnic time for teddy bears last week at the Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department held their Indoor lunch with the preschoolers These girls snuggled their teddy bean as they waited for peanut butter and honey
