today Senior Games reminder In 1980 the Ontario Seniors Games were developed to allow seniors from all over Ontario to compete in local regional and pro vincial games These games were designed for fun and social interac tion and not just competition The games have grown from their humble beginnings to over 25000 participants in local and regional games in 1968 In August of over 1400 seniors congregated in Brampton for three days of provincial com petitions and fun Thirtyfour of provincial districts were represented with Halton Hills District sending 41 competitors Of those 41 nine were from Halton Hills and although no medals were brought home they had a great time and developed some lasting friendships In Halton Region committees are now being created to promote each of the games for our regional competitions The games include Euchre 5Pin Bowling Floor Shuf- fleboard Cnbbage Tennis Swim ming Lawn Bowling Contract Bridge Horseshoes Walking Soft ball Toss Snooker Carpet Bowling and Golf The Town of Halton Hills needs a representative in each of the games to ensure we have input Into the district competitions Fun matches are already being plann ed for March through June this Major Novices are busy preparing for the playoffs which begin toward the end of this month Saturday afternoon the team travelled to Cambridge for an ex hibition match Playing without two key players Steven Smith and Shane Thompson the boys knew some extra effort was required Just over three minutes into the game our lone goal scorer from the OMHA playoffs Brown set up Curtis Hoogendam for a quick shot to the top right comer and a lead Then with only a andahalf remaining in the period Brown a Cambridge defenceman for puck and again passed to Hoogendam Curtis drop ped the puck back to Andrew at point and hut screen ed shot found the net Although they had many chances Georgetown failed to add to that total Cambridge came back with one in the first and one in the third for a well deserved tie Both goalies Scot Serbert and Kevin Humeniski were outstan ding and Kevin preserved the tie with a point blank save with only two seconds remaining Rookie Browns two assists leave him tied with Curtis Hoogendam at a goal and two assists for the team lead in post season play Bight winger Wesley Blight was called upon to play defence in Smiths absence and he did not look out of place Bridge winners Mike and Karol were the top winners at tbe Legion duplicate bridge competition Mon day The combination of George Far row and George Sargent finished second on the day while Doris Barber and Jeanne coordinalor of Vicki Keiths Great Lakes marathon swims last summer addressed a packed house at John Elliott Theatre on Wednesday at the 12th annual Municipal Awards Evening Over individuals were honored by The Town for athletic and academic achievement and community service McGowen spoke about winning at life and challenged the audience to bet on yourself by declaring goals in life and
