1984 Ogden who coaches girls basketball at Centennial thought a coed tournament with girts and boys teams competing In the same competition would make a unique event On Saturday at Centennial Ogdens Idea came to fruition for the second consecutive year as a pair of metro Toronto schools bat tied for the championship of the se cond annual Centennial Cupid Co- Ed Basketball Tournament I just thought it was a neat idea and would make an interesting competition said Ogden on Satur day Under the competition format schools enter both its girls and boys teams which play two quarters per game each with the running scores combined Boys teams play against opposition boys teams and girls against girls alternating the four quarters In this years final Homelands of defeated Torontos Carlton Village 3822 The two boys teams were fairly evenly matched while Homelands used a slight advantage in the girls por tion to total the winning final score of 3822 Also included in the daylong tournament is a Hot Shot competition in which individual players take outside shots and do layups for points against the clock That gives kids who dont play a lot a chance to improve their skills said Ogden Ten teams battled at three Georgetown venues Centennial and Holy Cross before Saturdays final at Centen nial Entered along with Centennial Stewarttown Holy Cross Homelands and Carlton Village was Sam Sherratt Milton Brookdale Burlington and and Williams parkway both of Peel County Stewarttown led local schools with a 21 tourney record while Centennial posted a 12 mark and Holy Cross went Four local copped top honors in the Hot Sbqt Layup com petition Tatum Nolan of Centennial took first in the hot shot competition scoring points Competitors received one minute to shoot and scored either five three or two points depending upon the location they shot from around the key Julie Scarlett of Stewarttown took first in the girls layup contest earning points Contestants were obliged to alternate right and left handed layups from the foul line over a oneminute time period In the boys section Jim Kat silieris of Centennial won the hot shot event while Todd Fuller of Ho ly Cross took
