Page THE HERALD February 1989 Youths wanted for questioning Halton Police are seeking in formation in regards to three youths seen in the area of a fire which caused damage to the Ecole Ste Marie School 336 Maurice Drive Oakville At about am Saturday Jan 7 of this year three youths were seen at the Ecole Marie school shortly before a fire was discovered Investigation found that the school had been entered by forcing a door on the west side of the building Once inside a fire was started in the kindergarten room The youths are described as be ing between the ages of 13 and years Two appeared to be about 5ft tall and the third a little taller One youth was wearing a CRIME STOPPERS HALTON blue jacket with red on the shoulders These youths are wanted for questioning as they had been observed impose a per acre lot levy on commer cial and industrial land today Wednesday administration and finance committee approved the lot levy last week but the im plementation date is yet to be determined Lot levies are fees landowners must pay to Halton to help pay for the costs of sewers water roads waste disposal police hospitals and administration which ac companies new development In theory lot levies ensure that ex isting taxpayers dont pay for new development The committee had proposed to make the lot levies retroactive to Oct 19 with three industrial sub divisions signed since that date paying only 50 per cent of the levies But the committee deferred that recommendation until today Commercial and industrial lot levies have been a controversial topic at Halton for many years In the early 1980s the Region propos ed commercial and industrial lot levies but politicians held off fear ing a huge decline in development due to the economic recession However a report by finance commissioner Joe last week said the implementation of the lot levy should not have a significant negative impact on the marketability and development of commercialindustrial lands Man charged An man
