required to take cancer patients to large hospitals like Sunnybrook in Toronto We just want somebody who cares thats all said transporta tion convener Jenny Tuf fin But these caring people must also have a car And they will be paid for mileage said Mrs Johnson Volunteers are marvellous people Youre giving up your time as a volunteer and thats very impor tant isnt it said Mrs Tuffin Presently volunteers are absent during winter months as they go on vacations Some are retiring at a rate too rapid to properly replace them Mrs said right now she is overtaxing her volunteers when she says she knows they are giv ing all theyve got Cancer statistics are frighten ing Some form of cancer will strike Canadians in the next year according to a Canadian Cancer Society Report I dont want to stress the negative said Mrs Johnson Her optimism is wellfounded The Cancer Society report also says more people with cancer are liv ing longer lives In the 1980s one of every two patients under treat ment
