University of Western Ontario Jans won both the provincial and national Under16 squash titles last year and just prior to the Winter Games had returned from a tour of Europe with the Canadian team She was the youngest of seven candidates chosen to represent the national junior squad Also prior to- her gold medal performance at North Bay Jans took top spot in the Toronto and District B championships As day two of the weeklong GMHA International Bantam Hockey Tournament wrapped up on Monday night the two Georgetown teams were proving to be good hosts Georgetown Minor Bantams and the local Bantam Bs both lost their opening games as the annual GMHA extravaganza got under way on Saturday with 19 teams battling for the grand champion ship title to be played next Satur day at 8 pm The two Georgetown teams are representing the GMHA in this years tourney with the M and M Pro Sports AAs still involv ed in OMHA Georgetowns B brigade made it close on Monday coming back from a threegoal deficit against a physical Hanover club to drop a decision Things werent nearly as close for the Georgetown Minor Ban tams however as they opened their tournament schedule on Saturday night by suffering a whitewashing at the hands of Pickering Minors On Monday the Bs and Hanover skated through a scoreless first period before the visitors finally solved the goaltending of Carl Elgin in the second frame with a pair of goals Hanover held a lead midway through the final period before Jeff took a lead pass from Adam Moneypenny and blasted a slapper home from just inside the visitors blueline Two minutes later Georgetown cut the margin to on the as Troy Gardiner bang ed the puck into the Hanover net during goalmouth scramble Bobby and Adam Moneypenny helped out on the play taking earlier whacks at the puck and picking up assists on the eventual goal Thats as close as Georgetown would get however as Hanover controlled the puck late in the game and held on for the win On Saturday Toronto Hawks threw a monkey wrench into the tournament planning committees work when they failed to show up for their opening two games thus reducing the competition lineup to teams from Meanwhile six teams are battl ing for playoff spots in the combin ed A and B division which includes Chinguacousy Oakville Wexford Milton and Cambridge The C division consists of Wood- bridge East York Whitby court Niagara Falls Port Perry and Stratford In the D group are Georgetown Georgetown Minors Hanover Brampton Paris and Pickering Minors A pair of playoff spots were already decided after
