season and Halton Hills is no exception to the rule Bevin Clarke will handle the reins of the GDHS Rebels track contingent in 1989 and hes excited about the upcoming season Im really looking forward to the season said Clarke last week We havent lost many kids from last season weve got a good nucleus back and a lot of new kids who are really keen Clarkes crew will start training in earnest this week with the first competition being the St Michaels Snowball Relays on Apr 7 in Toronto Among the talented veterans coming back to the GDHS starting blocks this season is the junior girls 100 OFSAA bronze medalwinning team of Burroughs Anna Michele Thompson and Lisa Carter Other big names coming back in clude Sheri Nairn Bob Donker Rick Lane and Glen Mulder who all saw success on the track in Clarke Clarke will also look to the brother combination of Kevin and Mike Dyer as well as talented athletes Melanie Jans and Natalie to carry the Rebel colors into competition Clarke is as much pleased with the number of athletes who want to run track this year as he is by their calibre We had over 70 athletes to our first meeting he enthused That will make my challenge more difficult but Im and open relays Clarke will be handling the head coaching chores himself this year as former cocoaches Donna Met calfe and Karen Cosgrove have decided to take this year off after several years in the track wars with GDHS teams Former Georgetown students Jay Anderson currently studying physical education at Brock University and Bob Anderson will be on hand to help Clarke as will GDHS viceprincipal Joe Bray The efforts of Donna and Karen will certainly be missed said Clarke But well pick up the slack It should be a great season The Rebel team will look toward its annual Rebel Classic Invita tional meet at the end of April and all events afterward point to the June 23 allOntario championships in Etobicokei We should have a great team there said Clarke Meanwhile up the pike in Acton the are welcoming the largest track and field team theyve had in five years That ac cording to cocoach Shelley Weve got lots of Grade out and some upcoming sprinters said wholl handle the coaching duties along with Bruce Andrews Mitch Chuvalo and Marg Shaller Veteran long jumper Jen Scott will be back to lead the along with runner Jim Sale and sprinters Tany Holly and Thanh In the throwing depart ment playoff games They now face either Burlington or Stoney Creek in the TriCounty Championship final The Domtar Packaging squad in a chippy contest concentrated on hockey enough to keep at least a
