Norval News 90 years young Mrs Esther McClure celebrated her 90th birthday last week with her two youngest great grandchildren and Paul George will be missed By KAY WILSON Norval Correspondent NORVAL Lifelong resident of Georgetown George Burt in his year passed away April 1 at the Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital following a threemonth illness George was born and raised in the farm home his father Lawrence Burt bought in 1904 George was a proud family man a community minded farmer He attended the Old Stone Public School No and Sideroad 22 and Georgetown High School He farmed all his life out spent a year on a sugar beet farm in near Chatham Ontario He was a member of the Acton Junior Farmers the Stone School Farm Forum the Esquesmg Agricultural Society Liberal Association The Auxiliary Police the curling club the Log Cabin Lawn Bowlers and the Golden Age Bowling League He was an honorary member of the Georgetown hospital board an avid euchre player and a member the Monarch Hunt Club where he enjoyed deer and moose hunting However with all these tivities deepdown George was a farmer at heart and held a deep respect for the land He is survived by his wife Pearl and was the dear father of Shirley and her husband Henry Chaplin of Georgetown and Muriel and her husband Basil Watson of Brampton Earl Burt and his wife Judy of Georgetown and Ross Burt and his wife Connie of Acton He was the dear grandfather of 10 grand children and two great grand children He was the brother of Helen Mrs Ken Hamilton Margaret Mrs William Johnston Lloyd Burt and the late Roy and Elmer Burt Funeral service was held from the J S Jones and Son Funeral Home in Georgetown on April Rev Ken Barrow conducted the service Interment was in Presbyterian Church Cemetery Honorary pallbearers were George Henderson Don Lindsay Rud Whiting and Duncan Mac Mtllan The pallbearers were nephews Harvey Burt Donald Burt Gordon Hamilton Ed Lucy Ernie Shaw and Dennis Lock Flower bearers were his grand children Wendy Parent Andy Parent Paul Chaplin David Chaplin Carolyn Watson Lisa Watson Burt Stephen and Burt Kelly Lawrence Jay Burt and Sheldon Olmstead Also attending were Lawrence Johnston Jim James and Michael Euchre party NORVAL Brampton West Women Institute held a very successful euchre party at Hut tonville School with 27 tables in play Prize winners were Dorothy Johnston and Margaret McClure who tied with Evelyn Wilkie Other winners included Roche John McCullough Lloyd Viney and Linda McKinnon Door went to Ada Blackwell Manon Lightheart and Isabel McClure Lunch was enjoyed served by the Institute Ladies Best wishes NORVAL The family of Mason of StreetsviUe in all friends relatives and neighbors to an open house in honor of his birthday Satur day May 6 from to 5 Show on Friday even ing 21 with George Smith as Master of Ceremonies The evening aactivities were mainly dedicated to Margaret and Walter Ridley as they are moving to another pastoral charge located in Toronto They served the pastoral charge for 23 years Christopher Marg and Walter grandson started the program with a violin solo The Sunday school classes Sunday school teachers groups couples club and the junior and senior choirs all participated and displayed a great deal of acting and musical talent Lois Cathy Paul and Fred Paul pro vided fill in music and led the congregation in an old time sing song Walter and Marg were presented with flight tickets for a trip to Japan a beautiful set of brass candle holders and candles and a cheque to be used for spen ding money for their trip The Jessie Fisher of Georgetown on the passing of her husband Jim Jim was a lifelong fanner on the Fifth Line and Sideroad 10 and could tell the early farming history and many interesting stones until a stroke a year ago confined him to Georgetown hospital where he passed away Jim was an ardent supporter of the Esques Society as well as a member of the Boston Presbytenan Church 94th birthday NORVAL
