draw to be held in Milton The Ontario Agricultural Museum has been chosen by the Ontario Lottery Corporation to host a live Draw on Thursday June i in he Barn Appearing on Global Television this weekly show at tracts a viewing audience of over people In addition to presenting the winning numbers the show will highlight the Milton area and the many events and activities scheduled during the Museums 10th anniversary season Prior to the televised draw the audience will be entertained by several well known musical groups and individuals from the Milton area Bruce Hood a well known Milton resident act as Master of Ceremonies for this segment of the evening program Entertainment groups include The Milton Choristers Milton District Pipe Band Milton Senior Citizens Choir and other well great deal He began draw ing at the age of three using the Funtstones as his first subject He has taken courses from Georgetown Wendy Buykea and Brian and he has com many English French and history projects using his cartoon abilities Joe received special permission to attend Artsperience at Canador College in North Bay at age The minimum age requirement was 18 but Joe managed to get trained under such greats as Robert Bateman and Lynn Johnston a cartoonist and the organizer of the Reuben Awards Joe appeared on television in North Bay with Ms Johnston The University of Toronto Phi Delta Kappa has commissioned Joe to submit drawings His work is also used by the history depart ment of Sir Univer sity Some of his works were presented to Sir Paul Scoon Governor General of Grenada and Thomas Niles United States Em bassador Other works have been exhibited at the Georgetown Art Gallery and at the M and T Art Gallery near Ontario Joe attributes the success of his works to his family and friends I ve been really lucky to have the support of my parents and family Im especially thankful to my parents and to Lynn Johnston who have given me ideas and faith he said This is the first year in a 43year history that the Reuben Awards have been held outside the United States They began Thursday and will run until Sunday at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto Over 300 celebrated interna tional cartoonists were expected to attend the event including Cathy Guiswite of Cathy comic strip Mort Drucker of MAD magazine Mike Peters of Mother Goose and Grimm Lynn Johnston of For Bet or For Worse as well as the creators of Hi and Lois Beetle Bailey Peanuts Broom Hilda and The Spirit Nominees for this year Reuben Awards named for Rube Goldberg are Will Eisner of The Spirit Jim Davis creator of Gar field and Will of Calvin andHobbes Local chamber says Head for the Hills Halton Hills Chamber of Com General Manager Doug told councillors Monday Hills want to attract tourists from as far away as Buf falo Mr Penrice was speaking to kick off National Tourism Awareness Week He also wants to promote being a hometown tourist In Hills This town is a mecca for day trippers from Toronto and sur rounding areas He said the Chamber has received phone calls asking where the Crazy Boat Race is and where to find the fall fairs And although Hills stilt lacks hotel space for weekend visitors
