TOE HERALD OUTLOOK lanky June J MM- Page Jill Windsor wins election United Church held Its annual barbecue at Huttonvflle School last week Chicken from Maple Lodge Farms and homemade salads and pies were featured at the event Brian Evans from Norval Church serves out some pie a la mode Herald photo By MICHELLE Herald Special Recently at the Georgetown District High School elections were held to determine who will be the student council dent The students left their classes on Monday May to hear the speeches from the four can didates Jill Windsor Carey Gar diner Leah Nord and Janet ton The candidates gave a max of a five minute speech to the audience and the students were to vote on the abllot they had been given in their classes School president for next year will be Jill Windsor Jill is an 18- yearold Grade student but when she takes over from past president Vicki Hughes she will be in Grade 13 She has been grade representative for the past three years Her part time job is at the downtown answering service answering the phones and working on a computer Dunng her spares Jill teaches swimming at the high school Jill takes a pattern making night course at Sheridan College and has a real interest in designing and making clothes She hopes to go to Ryerson in Toronto after finishing Grade 13 to pursue a career in the fashion industry I know I can do a really good job Jill says with confidence the weeks building up to the election took a different ap proach with her campaign While the other- candidates were hanging posters in the halls she decided that she didnt have to try to make up peoples minds because they could make up their own minds Jill didnt want the election to be a popularity thing She didnt want them to make their decision depending on how nice the poster was but instead to listen to my speech and listen to me and what I had to say Jill said Instead of what my posters or my catchy jingles could say Gary Robinson vice president for the coming year and Jill feel that they will have a lot of things to be discussed at the business meeting for student council on June This is the- time that they will talk about the agenda for the coming year Some plans for next year What we want to do is get the Much Music Video Dance party and the CFNY video road show for the beginning and end of the year Gary Robinson said Both the president and the vice presi dent hope to plan more events that would involve the students such as air bands Gary and Jill say that they have basically the same ideas and views about the school so that will help them with everything student council will be involved in which Is everything from school dances to helping in deciding how the school budget will be spent Were looking forward to a great year Gary said and Jill agreed Gary Robinson the new Student Council Vice President and Jill Windsor President are looking forward to a great year when they start planning lots of exciting events during the school year
