During the 23 years the have been actively involved in many associations Walter has been president of the Norval Community Association a member of the Georgetown CA and a founding member of the North Hal ton Distress Centre Several years ago Walter was a Chaplain at the Brampton Cor Centre He has been chairman of the Presbytery twice in years He has been on many United Church committees including the Inter view Committee interviewing prospective candidates for the United Churchministry and on a committee with our present moderator Rev Sang Chul Lee During the time of the Viet Boat People Crisis Walter helped our churches spon sor and establish a Vietnamese family in the area This family faced many extreme hardships both in their homeland and after they arrived in Canada With t e help of the Ridleys and church members they are now happily settled in Canada Because of the length of time that the Ridleys have been in volved in the community and Home and Huttonville churches they have touched many families and have rejoiced with them in times of celebration birth christening confirmation and weddings and have grieved with them in times of despair loneliness and death We live in fearful and confusing times but Walter has taught us to face life with confidence believ ing the scripture I am with you always even to the end of the world This is Gods pro mise to us Matt 28 vs 20 baptism of their daughter Katelyn Jean Great grand mothers Mrs Kate Laidldw Nor val and Mrs Gladys Goodhew of Brampton attended as did grandparents Bill and Gwen of and Howard and Van Berkum of Oakville Beth Laidlaw Carol Ann and her fiance Glenn Roberts Grace Van Rianna and Johnny Stanley and Anne and Chris Cas5elman also joined in the celebration Family buffet NORVAL Larry and Heather Laidlaw of RR2 Norval parents of Angela Nicole hosted a family buffet dinner at their home following the baptism service Great grandmother Cathenne Laidlaw along with both grand parents Lloyd and Ella Laidlaw of and J and Bet June Stewart of Bolton all at tended Patrick and Shelly Cameron of Fergus parents of William Andrew who was baptized joined in the day as did Brenda Kistner and children Clayton and of Acton Jack and Cathy Hamilton and Shannon of Norval and Florence Moore and family of Brampton Sisters Nancy and Linda Stewart and brother Brian Stewart all of Bolton and David May of Norval all enjoyed the family dinner Unable to attend was great grandmother Hannah Stewart of Bolton ner for the two gentlemen at the home of Newton and Marlon Rud dell Georgetown around 50 relatives friends and neighbors arrived to extend their best wishes to both the surprised gents Assisting their mother in serving lunch were Margo of Carleton Place Susan Preston Brampton Donna Ruddell of The meeting was convened by Ann Wilson and AUeen Nixon These two- girls had attended the Halton Wellington District s Landscaping course held in Fergus earlier this year A 12 minute video on pruning was shown followed by slides of actual landscaping Planting technique how to balance how walls walkways fences types of stone and edging could be used in public private play and garden areas was all ll lustrated in the slide Edging and a tray of several types of landscape stone was displayed by Ann and AUeen Landscaping should be pleasing to the individual If one way is not suitable try something else they said Nonne Van reported that was to be available from District to help sponsor a future W I course She also com mended the branches on their posters at District Annual depic ting AC WW Associate Coun try Women of the World around the World Many thanks again to Jean May for compiling and printing up our 198990 programs Because one of our members had enquired at the planning department Halton Hills Coun Ciller Ward 2 Robert Heaton came to the meeting bringing maps from Region show ing where wells to accommodate new development around Georgetown are being installed Anyone
