sampling this week that will in elude an intensive survey of the closed beach at Fairy Lake in Ac ton The Region samples points at lakes and streams and does some spot sampling on the Credit River The surveys which began in June produced four beach closures in south Halton The new beach at Fairy Lake closed last year due to high bacterial counts was sampled as early as May this year Sampling will continue into August The Region has closed the Sioux Lookout and Burloak Park in Burl ington and Bronte Park West and Dingle Park in OakviUe Bronte Beach is the only one considered as a swimming beach said Dave Stronach of the Regions health department The new beach at Fairy Lake and two private beaches at Pro spect Park campgrounds in Acton are also closed The old beach at Fairy Lake re mains open The Region says the objective of summerlong testing at Fairy Lake is to see how to reduce bacterial counts Polluted waters are deter mined by the level of faecal col if arm organisms found in the gut of warmbloodied beings The organisms dont necessarily carry disease but they are a method of measuring pollution said Mr The new beach at Fairy Lake wont open until the Region deter mines that the bacterial count is at a safe level The beach could be dosed for the swimming season which runs from July 3 to Aug The Regional health staff gested placing placards on tested beaches to warn that
