Picture a resort in Cape Breton Have you ever longed to get away Not just for a weekend in a Holiday Inn nor for a package tour to some third world country where the impoverished natives make you feel rich and superior but rather to a place where you and your woman or you and your man or if you prefer you by yourself can spend some days in utter silence away from the noise and the stench and the mad strug gle all against all in what is generally called the wonderful booming world of Greater Toron to Imagine a very blue sky with wandering clouds brilliant sun shine mountains beckoning from a distance a cooling breeze from the sea a beach stretching for miles foam capped waves washing over the sand the haunting cries of in the air All this for you alone You might never meet another human being unless you want to or if you are a pair you might both find out what it must have been like in the Garden of Eden It sounds enchanting but where Is the comfort you will probably ask at this point Dont worry I do not expect you to rough it like Robinson Crusoe Right behind you up a gentle slope from the dream beach I just described is a brand new little village of woodscented loghouses with verandahs that will shelter you and your book on a rainy day and huge picture windows that give you a view of the sea right from your bed Every one of these heavenly abodes is equipped with everything you have become ac customed to in the world you come from a modern kitchen electric heating a bathroom a color televi sion Does this place exist you will wonder or is it fiction like Shangri La In the autumn of 1987 Charles a young man from Nova Scotia and his wife Daryl Harding of Georgetown came across a 7Q- acre rundown resort at Bay on Cape Breton They looked into the feasibility of developing a new resort close to the sea and near to the spectacular Cabot Trail a kilometre long auto route that links the most scenic parts of Cape Breton making it one of the greatest scenic routes in the world They bought the property in 1988 destroyed the sagging old cabins and started on what is going to be the first phase of an imaginatively designed plan for a great resort called The Already the place is like no other with its wholesome loghouses plus ocean swimming plus camping and boating for special groups and clubs Next year there will be a swimming pool and a restaurant that can seat guests to sample the fabulous food of the region mainly fresh local fish and Cape Breton lamb Further projects are tennis courts a motel a giftshop offering crafts of the region and nightly entertainment by the singers and fiddlers of this maritime province The hostess of The is Charles sister Ann a lady of considerable charm and ef ficiency and a source of informa
