finished the youth are finished the Falcons are finished and by the time you read this the Inter County semi finals should be over in both divisions Monday in Georgetown and Streetsville the first and second divisions encounters took place Cedarvale hosted Mariners vs Crown and Anchor followed by Meteor vs Acton Villa Syntex the beautiful new field in Streetsville hosted the second division games between United and Tarn OShanter and vs Lauren Wednesday Eagles came within inches of qualifying when missing a last minute chance in front of goal As it was they tied Meteor 2 but the tie was not enough From what I can gather Meteor s goals were a little fortunate a penalty counter and an over the head of the goalie counter They all count In the other first division clash Villa played to win against Mariners from the start and pulled off a 21 win Villa deserved the result as Mariners were listless un til the last 20 minutes when the home team began to take the game to the visitors However Eagles draw meant Mariners were through to the penultimate stage Crown and An chor left second place Marhn pointless with a 30 result to reach the semis despite a win just could not make it in the second division playoffs and must be a little disap pointed Milton and Stingers were already eliminated and United join and Trexcon and Tarn OShanter in the semis Depending upon results from Monday this evening Wednes day could well see the finals played at Cedarvale at and 8 respectively The decision to play so closely is due to one of the semi finalists having two weddings GEORGETOWN CUSTOM in reporting of hooliganism from Britain and should have been England Well this week it Is the turn of radio land AM 1430 Talking of Sports Hosts Bob Macowan and Bill so normally accurate and informative with an excellent program were guilty of similar er During last week whilst men tioning the subject they alluded to Europe being excluded and talked of Britains hooligans they were comparing them with New Yorkers at the time However European continental fans are as guilty of vandalism and violence as the English not the Scots Irish and Welsh gentlemen Gary Morrow opened the scoring for Steelers En the CSL Eastern division two leg final first game in Hamilton An equalizing goal came from the Blizzard central defender Carl Fletcher The goals were all we had in a hard game In the second leg Steelers took an early lead through Alex Bun bury in the third minute The game had lots of physical challenges many illegal and both teams miss ed out the midfleld in buildups The game was played at mat Stadium and the conditions were poor the field not in good shape Morrow received a caution on a con by I felt the referee was a little too fussy and whistle happy although the game was tousy Very inconsistent and lots of whistle were the mainstay of the first half with Steelers leading The second half produced no bet ter standard of officiating than the first I am sorry to report The play continued to be mainly scrappy The Steelers went in to a twogoal lead on an offside goal which the ref should have caught and did not Blizzard netted on an equally off side goal to even those errors Steelers had decided to defend at this point and held out for the deserved victory Morrow himself nodded the ball down to scorer Gasparini for the winner and generally had another
