Metcalfe and Karen believe there is method to their madness of setting a punishing training schedule for their charges A number of team members took part in three highlycompetitive meets over the past junior girls team placed second overall Curling season close By ELLEN BURNS Herald Special The Curling season at North Halton is moving closer and much preparation has been going on behind the scenes towards a great year A joint executive meeting of the Mens and Ladies Sections was held Wednesday night It was reported that applications are rolling in for all secitons Men Ladies and Social It is encouraging to see new Junior members this year Application forms may be picked up at the office at North Halton Golf Club during office hours or at the bar It is hoped all Curlers will remember our Opening function our Get Acquainted eveing to be held October 13 at 7 A great chance to come out and meet old curling friends you haven t seen all summer and also meet some of our new members Open country runner Dave Osborne is taking giant in making a name for himself Southern Ontario har circles In the past days Osborne has competed in three tough meets and acquitted himself well Sept 23 Osborne and his mates competed in the Heart Lake meet and he finished fourth overall in a field of 100 runners in the midget boys event Karen Pettipher placed in midget girls competition while Rick Lane placed in the senior boys race Last Thursday the ADHS riers took part in the Third Annual Royal Invitational Cross Country meet hosted by Bishop Reding High School of Milton at Kelso Conservation area and once again performed admirably against top flight competition The meet attracted over schools from as far away as don and Falls Osborne once again set the stan dard for the team by finishing fourth in a Held of 163 finishers midget boys tion Matt Julian Sark 122 and Bob Andrews 134 also competed Karen Pettipher placed in a field of finishers in the midget girls race ADHS junior boys who competed included Kevin 74 Lam Nguyen 88 Jason Dunn Matt Ellioot 107 and Dave Watkinsoni28 The gruelling competitive period came to an end for Osborne last Saturday when he placed eighth out of a field of finishers at the Annual High Park Invitational cross country meet staged in Toronto Megan Lusby was third in the junior girls race Leslie Scarth placed while Alexis Kerr ed31st Paced by Kristy Johnson the GDHS midget girls team was fourth overall Kristy placed se cond in the race Also competing were Nancy Reid Nolan Daine Manning Emma Gelok and Lydia Copeland For the senior boys Dan Camp bell finished In the midget boys race Warren Darnell placed with Sandy Bull takingjrjOth place Ryan Trant was 38th in the junior boys race with Kevin Trant placing 85th The Bishop Reding High School hosted meet attracted over 50 schools from as far away as don and Fenelon Falls At the prestigious 18th Annual High Park meet Bob Donkers won the senior boys race besting a field of 250 runners Don Campbell 20 Martin Davison and David 34 also competed The GDHS senior boys team placed second overall The junior girls team placed fourth overall one point out of third place Team members in eluded Megan Lusby 11 Kristy Johnson Kristy moved up from midget division to compete in this race and Sara Mulholland 17 The GDHS midget girls team placed overall while the junior boys team also
