past week dropp ing both games by one goal Friday the locals went to Orangeville for a late 30 game start and quickly fell behind by three goals before Tim put Georgetown on the scoreboard late in the second period with assists to and Thompson Presswood scored again early In the third period from a pinpoint pass from Thomp son to close the gap to one Orangeville went up again by two on a powerplay goal but Georgetown came back less than a minute later when Steve Wright scored on a perfect passing play from Curry and Jake Mashinter to bring them back within one scored another goal and again with time running out Wright scored with assists to Curry and mark At the final buzzer the score was 54 Orangeville with Georgetown all over the hosts net We just ran out of time said coach John Wright Orangeville has a very good team here and we were ail over them at the close of the game We just couldn overcome that three goal lead we let them have Sunday at home the M and Bantams opened the scoring when Jake Mashinter took a Chris Bar row pass at the mark of the first and put it past the goalie That lead held up until the four minute mark of the second when Orangeville took an errant pass and tied it up but less than two minutes later Barrow put the locals ahead again with Steve Wright picking up the assist along with Mashinter Jake Mashinter picked up his third point of the night when he converted a lead pass from Wright to make the score 3 1 in Georgetowns favor Penalties to Georgetown allowed Orangeville to slowly run up the score and with only 52 seconds left they scored the go ahead goal while Georgetown was short handed The clock and a couple of dumb penalties cost us this game said Wright But overall I was pleased with the way the team played Wnght also had praise for the way the large defence played and singl out the sparkling performance in goal of Tom Raiders host Oakville Blades Georgetown Pontiac Buick Raiders are hoping a pair of Cen tral Ontario Junior B Hockey League tilts scheduled for this weekend will see an upswing in the teams fortunes Friday evening Raiders made the short jaunt to Milton for a game against the Merchants At press time the score was not available Tonight Saturday 7 30 m at Gordon Alcotl Memorial Arena Raiders face the always dangerous Blades Sporting a 161 early season record the Raiders need some sort of a break for things to finally start going their way Unfortunately their weekend op position just might heap more abuse on the hometown favorites Blades have collected seven points from four games to date while Milton Merchants are proving to be the surprise team of the Centra Leagues West Divi having garnered 10 points to share the division lead with Burl ington Cougars Raiders expect rugged team leader Kevin Dance back in action on the weekend following a four game suspension Dance should provide some much needed spark tothe harried Raiders Similarly Craig Cooper should be back on the ice Cooper suffered an early season shoulder separation In the senior boys category Redmen runner David was 28th while Mark Vanderakker placed 29th All teams taking part in the Halton championships qualify for the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference championship cross country meet to be held day at Hamilton s Churchill Park Minor Atoms take to ice Herald Special Georgetown Minor Atoms Burlington After splitting the first two games of the season Georgetown travelled to Burlington for a Satur afternoon contest Our bo s came out a little flat and Burlington was cruising along with a lead near the end of the second period until Sam Butt in tercepted a clearing pass and deflected it to Shane Thompson Shane took one step r the and fired a hard tlu startled Burlington netimnd for his fifth goal in just three games If Shanes shot gets any harder the Raiders will be calling him up That goal woke up our boys and they started to press One minute into the final frame Curtis dam won a faceoff in the opposition end and pulled the puck back to Steven Smith Smitty relayed to Thompson who shot from the blueline Brad Kouyoumjian slid the rebound over to Hoogendam and he buried it to tie the game Georgetown dominated the final period but had to settle for the tie Monday we travelled to Orangeville for a late game Our boys must have been up past their bedtimes and by the time they awoke they were down after on ly five minutes From that point to the end of the game the two teams were almost dead even with the opposition Georgetown broke the ice late in the third period when Ricky Clark scored bis second goal of the young season on passes from Brad David son and Wesley Blight Then with only a minute remain ing Brad Kouyoumjian scored on a nice threeway passing play with Curtis Hoogendam and Andrew Beavan The
