GIBSON Herald Sports Editor The Acton Realty Sabres hockey team executive underwent position last week as the result of the resignation of club general manager Robin Family commitments have become a priority for Inscoe and he felt Be just have the time to properly do was re quired for the Sabres Inscoe informed team president Bruce Cargill verbally last Thurs day 2 of his intentions to relinquish his position with the Sabres and this was followed Saturday by his written resigna Hon In a prepared statement delivered to the Sabres Inscoe stated When I took over as general manager of the Acton Sabres a little over a year ago it was not without reason I wanted to see junior hockey survive in Acton At this point in time I feel that goal has been reached and I feel the people are in place to keep the organization running successfully for years to come With this goal reached and strong financial backing I feel I must resign my position with the organization It has been a learning ex for me one that I have greatly appreciated and enjoyed But it is time to move on With a youngster getting in solved in minor hockey and another in figure skating I no longer feel I will be able to put the needed time into the hockey club I wish the team all the success and hope there are no hard feelings over the decision I hope the executive will con tinue to work toward the goals set out at the start of the season to make junior hockey in Acton a sue cess Sabre coach Ken Steen will take over the general manager posi Hon for the remainder of the season and other changes have also been instituted in the makeup of the team executive Harold Townsley t was named vice president in charge of hockey operations and Al Hay will handle team promotions and public rela t ions duties Bruce will remain in the position of team president Cargill who has worked with In scoe to keep the Sabres afloat regretted the loss of a fellow hockey booster Team owner Mitch noted that If not for the work of Robin Inscoe Sports Editor The roller coaster ride the 198990 MidOntario Junior Hockey League regular season schedule continued this past week for the Acton Realty Sabres the club played three games pick up two points but got blown away by Schomberg Last Wednesday Nov the Sabres invaded the home arena of Bradford and skated away with a solid win The win should have put the Sabres in the proper frame of mind Friday night against Schomberg at the Acton Community Centre but instead the Acton squad came up flat and Schomberg romped to a convincing win Sunday afternoon at Acton Com Centre the Sabres played host to Orangeville Crushers and their trend in play once again were reversed Orangeville claimed a win but untd the dying minutes of the third period the game could have gone either way The net result of the week ac tion left the Sabres with a 48 record leaving the team in the middle of the pack in league stan dings Againpt Bradford the Sabres came up with a gutsy effort in not the win Down 20 after the first period the Sabres rallied with a pair of goals in the second to a single rep ly from Bradford to trail 32 going into the final frame Acton scored twice in the third HYUNDAI OWNERS For Service Call 8731818 period while blanking Bradford to post the 43 win Goaltender Dean Bower played a strong game making 36 saves Jason Lucas scored twice for Ac ton with singles going to Craig and Jeff Shevalier Shevaher and Cullen collected assists as did John Van Dam Pete Cargill Bob Watson and Bob Gagnon The Friday night encounter on home ice against Schomberg was decided in the early going The visitors jumped out to a 40 first period lead moved ahead 50 after 40 minutes of play then scored five more times in the final frame to ice the Dean Bower played the first period in the Acton nets with Jim Mantione serving between the pipes over the final 40 minutes In one of the team s better ef forts of the year Sunday First period lapses came back to haunt the Sabres and allowed to escape with the win Orangeville led 32 after 20 minutes and after two periods The two teams exchanged single markers in the third frame but the final nail was driven into the Sabres coffin on a power play by the Crushers with just 5 left in the game Craig Cullen Wayne Rivers Bob Gagnon and Peter were the Sabre marksmen Cargill Cullen and Rivers notch ed assists as did Vince Rogers Bob Watson
