Sounds of Christmas In ad to several selections of tional music the choir will feature Puccini s Messa Gloria Since 1975 the driving force and constant source of motivation for the Choral Society has been tor Dale Wood Mr Wood has an extensive background in music having started playing piano at age three At age he began for training at the organ and in 1963 received his teacher s degree from the University of Toronto He conducted a 25voice girls choir prior to becoming assistant con ductor and accompanist for the Centennial Choir a posi tion which he held until 1977 Currently Mr Wood is organist and choir director of Grace United Treasure bazaar Acton Robert Little s parent association will be hosting a Christmas table top treasure bazaar on Saturday Nov from 10 a m to 3 at Robert voice and com position It is no wonder the Georgetown Choral Society feels confident with Dale Wood as director especially when tackling a difficult work such as Glona Challenge is not a new word for the choral socie ty however as they have sue cessfully performed other difficult scores such as John Re quiem Chichester Psalms and of course Handel s Messiah It is Mr Wood s feeling that such challenges are necessary in order to broaden the scope of the choir as well as the audience while simultaneously preseriting something exciting and enjoyable to both Although de Gloria is a mass it is almost operatic nature and very listenable says Mr Wood By performing works such as this one you get the most out of the chou Most members have not had am formal training and come from all walks of native of Cape Town South Africa and has lived in Canada since He too has in extensive musical background having studied music at Trinity College London The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music in England the of Cape Town College of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Toronto Mr also has a music degree from McMaster University in Hamilton Presently Clement Carelse is organist and choral conductor at Islington United Church as well as being an accomplished organ recitalist He is also employed by the Quebec based company Casa vant as an organ builder Mr Carelse has accompanied the choral society in the past and the choir feels fortunate to welcome him back with them once again The combination Of capable choral director and accompanist plus the very hard work and dedication of
