Saturday night a game against the Peterborough Junior Petes at Gordon Memorial Arena A lack of finishing power plagued the Raiders against the Petes as the visitors posted a Raider woes continue win Raiders have two home games this weekend Friday night Raiders host Brampton while Saturday evening Raiders take on Burlington Cougars Both games are scheduled for Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena Herald photos by Donna Kelt Consistency is lacking By COLIN GIBSON Herald Sports Editor Georgetown Buick Raiders suffered two more set backs over the weekend in Central Ontario Junior B Hockey League West Division play and ac cording to Raider coach Peter Sturgeon there was a simple ex for both defeats Lack of consistency stated Sturgeon We were both games in the early going and taking the body well Then for some reason the guys forgot what they were supposed to be doing and both Milton and Peterborough were allowed to regroup By the time our guys got back to what they were supposed to be doing taking the body it was too late The Raiders trekked to Milton Friday for a game against the archrival Merchants and were turned back 83 Saturday evening at home against the Peterborough Junior Petes Raiders second period woes allowed the visitors to waltz off with a win The twin losses leave the Raiders with a 1 record and mired in the cellar of the league West Division standings Immediate reinforcements might be the answer for the Raiders but according to Sturgeon no deals are in the works at present Raiders had Kevin out to practice this week but his status with the team is questionable Cummings played Junior B hockey in Markham last year and is the property of the Oakville Blades Raiders might consider us ing Cumminga if the Blades gave him his outright Things are still at a stalemate in regards to acquisitions the deal that saw Kevin Dance and Kelly Foster move to Mimico of the Metropolitan Toronto Hockey Leagues junior division but the pair balked at the deal Raiders suspect rival league teams have been in touch with the players but consider the two Georgetown property and as such out of bounds in terms of availability and are sitting on the shelf at present and will re main there unless and until Raider needs are satisfied Against Milton Friday evening relentless offensive pressure by the hometown Merchants proved just too much for the Raiders to bear The game was tied 1 after the first period but then Milton surged while the Raiders faltered Milton opened up a 53 two- period lead then counted three more markers in the final frame while holding the Raiders off the to win going away by the comfortable margin Raiders Brent Presswood couldnt be faulted for his efforts against Milton as he scored once and assisted on the other two Raider goals Savo and John William son scored the other Raider counters Savoy Chris Jason Stewart and Kevin Burrows picked up Saturday night against Peter again were plagued by a lack of finishing power The Georgetown squad had taken the measure of Peter borough for their only win of the season way back on Oct 14 with a win on the Petes home ice so a victory t out of the question Two points were still within the realm of possibility after the first period with Peterborough in front by a narrow 10 margin The second scuttled the Raiders hopes for a win as the Petes netted four goals to but a single reply from Georgetown and the visitors were allowed to enjoy a twoperiod lead Raiders rallied for three third period goals but this was offset by a four goal Peterborough binge to seal the locals fate John Williamson continued with his stellar play for Georgetown by netting two goals Ken Kosziwka and Jim English were the other Raider marksmen and English added assists for the Raiders Kevin Bur rows had two assists with single helpers going to Chris Lee Brent Kevin Brown Rob Doucette and Jim English Curtis Green manned the nets for the Raiders in both weekend Raiders have two rare home ap threat to advance to the gold medal match against Georgetown With OTHS ousted the gold medal match was somewhat an ticlimactic and substituting freely the Rebels claimed the GHAC title by scores of 154 and Our Number One priority was to get through to OFSAA stated coach McKay I felt the team won in pretty impressive style and honestly neither match was ever seriously in doubt The Rebs could have been excus ed bad they faltered at the GHAC meet as an decision delivered just to tournament play denied the team the use of one of the squad stalwarts Jim Lawrence who had transferred this year to GDHS from Bishop Reding High School of Milton was declared ineligible to enter the OFSAA qualifier just two hours before the Rebels took to the court Lawrence a starter and power hitter had played all
