Chamberlain Trophy The trophy is award ed annually to the winner of the schools choreographic competition It is open to all aspiring choreographers In the area and Is an excellent opportunity for the president Joan Folkard and the secretary Marjorle Walterhouse of Peel North District present Dessert and coffee were served by the hostess and her assistants Eleanor Macdonald and Eldred Anderson The president Enid McBride conducted the meeting and the roll call was an oldtime health remedy which was answered by the people present Tickets at for the Peel North District Dessert Euchre on March at 1230 are available for anyone in terested For the June meeting it was decided to attend the Stage West Theatre production The guest speaker Dr Ruth Alison who was on the staff of Princess Margaret Hospital- for many years on her work with cancer patients and the changes and improvements in treatment She emphasized how important it was to treat the whole person physically spiritually and emotionally The current events were given by Eileen and a Flower Contest was conducted by Jewel Lyons As a surprise the scout for the meeting Shirley McDonald gave each person an iced Valentine cookie and thanked all those who had contributed to the meeting fire in Acton By DORIS ABB Ashgrove Womens Institute Members of Womens Institute met at Hillcrest Church on Feb 20 with Betty as hostess and an attendance of 18 people The of the meeting was Nova Scotia Our Twin Province In reply to the roll call Give a fascinating town name in Nova Scotia such places as Pugwash Big Pond and Antigonish were named Program convenor Doris McNabb asked each member to draw the shape of Nova Scotia from memory and Bird won the prize for the picture looking most like the province An interesting display of souvenirs arranged by Marion McPhail included scenes plates and several items made from the Nova Scotia plaid A video gave the highlights of the history of the area and the various tourist attractions Correspondence read by secretary Vema Bird gave details of a macrame course for lawn chairs to be held at Brookville Hall on March 24 More information is available from Doris Lindsay OMAF is offering two programs to be held at Hillcrest Church which several members plan to at tend On March 5 the topic is Max imizing our Volunteers and on March it is From Slump to Sizzle both being held at pm In Mary Jane report on POWER it was noted that fun- activities planned include a Mystery Night in March a Garage Sale in April and a Hallo ween Dance Their next meeting is at Feb 28 Farm safety has a club in progress in Halton There will be a poster competition for public school students at the fall fairs and there are safety videos available for meetings from the association The past presidents of are sponsoring an essay competi tion for Grades and on the topic What society should be do ing to preserve the environment It was agreed that WI would look into organizing this In an area school Doris asked members to bring old school books to our April meeting to be included in a display at District Annual Marion McPhail reported that 14 of our members had an interesting experience last Wednesday even ing when they attended a taping of the Shirley TV show in Toronto This month marked the bir thday of the Womens In stitute Halton District President Nor- ma Alexander blew out the candles on the birthday cake and Halton Regional Police and the Acton Fire Department respond ed to a blaze on Highway in Hills at pm Feb Victor Szlegiel was injured in the blaze and was taken to Milton District Hospital He was treated for smoke inhalation and releas ed Mr Szlegiel was staying in town with his daughter for a few days police say He was outside cutting wood when he sensed the smoke He went back to the residence and spotted smoke coming out of the furnace duct Police say they found a resi dent trying to put out the fire by shovelling snow into a basement window The fire
