proverbial 8ball following an loss to Streetsville Derbys Tuesday evening in Streetsville in the fifth game of the Central On Junior B Hockey League West Division opening round best of seven playoff series The Tuesday night win gave Streetsville a lead in the series The sixth game in the series was played Friday night at Gordon Memorial Arena At press time the score was not available so by the time this report hits the streets the Raiders 198990 season could be history Should a seventh game be need ed it is scheduled for tomorrow Sunday in Streetsville We just got away from our game said Raider coach Peter Sturgeon in explaining the loss We were still in the game in the second period but then the guys started in the neutral zone instead of going for the body and Streetsville took full advantage We were playing their game instead of our own Additionally Sturgeon felt the officiating was one sided and atrocious for an important Junior playoff game This just t sour grapes said Sturgeon but the referee was terrible He was so onesided it even funny On the same play our guy would get four minutes while their guy just gets two It was very frustrating for the players Three of Streetsville s eight goals came with the man ad vantage Raiders jumped out to a first period lead but then Streetsville replied with a pair of their own the second of the soft variety to end first period play with the game tied at two While the Raiders doodled in the second period the were blinking the red light and Streetsville moved ahead after 40 minutes The teams matched three goal efforts in the final but the damage had been done to the Raiders in the second stanza and Streetsville was allowed to skate off to the win Raider regular season scoring champion Brent Presswood had another stellar offensive outing scoring three times and collecting an assist Kevin Brown continued with his offensive prowess of late by scor ing twice and adding a single helper to round out the Raiders scoring Single Raider assists went to Steve Jason Lucas an Acton Sabre recruit Andre Lewis and Chris Lazarowff Shawn replaced Curtis Green in the Raiders nets for the final seven minutes of the contest Hawks clipped by Rebs By COLIN GIBSON Herald Sports Editor The Georgetown District High School Rebels senior girls volleyball team made short work of Loyola Hawks of Tuesday afternoon to advance to semi final play in Halton League Senior Girls Volleyball League East Divison playoff action The Rebels disposed of Loyola 158 and in the bestof three match played at GDHS and aside from some early second game were never really threatened in the match Loyola had finished in fourth place in the East Halton League standings during the regular season while the Rebels claimed the regular season crown by demolishing Oakville Trafalgar High School a season ending clash for the regular season cham Rebel coach Clark ap peared never to doubt his charges would put away Loyola Granted it might have been a bit of a grudge match we lost to them earlier in the regular season said Clark but I diem t think for a minute we would lose to them again and the arts it With Loyola threatening a com eback in the first game with the score 108 in the Rebels favor Lisa Clark calmly stepped to the serv mg area and her serves combined with some strong net work by Julie Ross and Jen Irwin finished off Loyola 158 It took the Rebels some time to get rolling in the second game as the team appeared to lose concen tration in the early going Loyola led 43 at one point and a little later Then substitute Kelly Cotton took command and her serves moved the Rebels in front Loyola rallied to 109 but was a last gasp effort and with Kim Col lison serving Holly Sones provided the final kill for the game and match win Anna Toone a Rebel mainstay provided excellent sets for a number of Rebel kills Figure skaters collect medals Results of the Peel Halton InterClub Competition held on Feb 11
