Georgetown Animal Clinic 1 are beautiful at Christmas time but unfortunate ly they are quite poisonous to our pets Try to keep these plants elevated and out of reach of your pets 2 We all love chocolate at Christmas and given the op portunity our pets would too But remember chocolate is very poisonous to our pets and can quickly kill them Tinsel is a popular decora tion that cats find particularly in teresting but it is also dangerous Cats will readily in tinsel and it can cause severe abnormalities which require immediate surgical repair Keep the tinsel well elevated and out of reach of our curious pets 4 We all tend to overeat at Christmas time but it doesn t mean our pets should have a huge feast too Overfeeding animals especially at Christmas often causes vomiting diarrhea and in some sad cases especially the large breed deep chested dogs twisted stomach which can rapid lead to death Lets stick to feeding them their regular food and minimal treats they quickly become sick on too much people goodies Christmas is a wonderful op portunity to give that special so meone or family a new pet However with the excitement of the holidays and especially Christmas day our new kittens and puppies are often tionaLly not cared for as atten tively as they would if given at another time New pets are often very frightened and unsure in their new surroundings and the commotion of Christmas can really terrify them Better wait until after the holidays to give the new pet when things have started to settle down and proper care and attention can be given to the youngster Instead if plann to give a pet give a collar or leash or some pet accessory as an exciting reminder of what is to come 6 Don forget to properly secure your Christmas tree Curious cats and dogs will try to climb into the tree to inspect all those interesting ornaments only to topple the tree over and break those treasured bulbs and leav ing broken glass all over which is just asking for cut feet both yours and theirs On behalf of the Georgetown Animal Clinic we would like to extend our and warmest wishes for a safe and happy day season Please feel free to contact us if you have any
