Community- THE HERALD Wednesday Pige Milestone reached by Ellen Shipp By KAY WILSON many friends of Mrs Ellen Sblpp of Essex Out will be hap py to know she celebrated her on Feb 1st However Mrs Shipp has been in the Westminister Hospital Windsor with pneumonia for the last couple of weeks but returned to the nursing borne in Essex on Saturday last Prior to that Mrs Shipp moved months ago from own home in Essex to the nur sing home and has been enjoying life there When she was leaving her home she said Remember if I dont like it Im coming back Mrs Shipp along with her late husband Fred Shipp were farmers in the Hornby area some years ago and made many friends both with young and old alike Mrs Shipp coached Junior Farmers plays for the drama competitions She along with- the late Mon tgomery who was the Presbyterian Ministers wife in Norval jointly coached the Old Concerts that were held an nually in the Parish Hall at val Local church people entertain ed in all types of musical numbers including stepdancing Their costumes were the oldest of fine vintage fashions Those were the days people made their own fun and entertainment Congratulations Mrs Shipp and best wishes for lots sessions The closed sessions of the Georgetown Open Door program which first ran in the fall starts up again this evening Wednes day and Open Door Executive Director Vanessa BellSmith ex pects it to be better than ever Open Door is a community ser vice group for area teens It is comprised of two a dropin centre and a Young Mothers Program The closed sessions offer a more structured environment and are an offshoot of the teen drop in program As happened in the fall said Ms BellSmith the closed sessions which happen Wednesdays pm will centre on preparation of dinner by the participants followed by a discus sion on teenrelated issues led by Ms BellSmith In addition Ms BellSmith said the upcoming sessions will also include outings The kids are in terested in visiting a prison the Toronto Science Centre and Queens Park she said The closed sessions which run out of St Georges Anglican Church provide an opportunity for teens to talk about issues that concern them and to share how they really feel about things ex plained Ms BellSmith Topics of discussion during the fall session included living on the street alcohol and drug abuse and communication within the family said Ms BellSmith The fall program was so suc cessful that the sessions had to be split into two groups she said In stead of 15 teens participating 22 became involved explained the executive director For more Holland on Sept 12 1987 Following the war she and her husband Ronald and two sons emigrated to Canada and in 1953 settled on Lot 4 Line of Old Township now Hal Hills They farmed until when they retired to the Holland Chris tian Homes at Brampton Mrs was a devoted member of the Second Christian Reformed Church Brampton and was the oldest member in her year Mrs Feikema was pre deceased by her husband Ronald in Surviving are her two sons Dick and Ms wife Anne and Sidney and his wife both of RRI Also sur vived by six grandchildren Glen- da and her husband Ravi Ronald Marilyn Karen Joan and her husband Glenn and Heather Also one great grand child Kate Visitation was at the Ward Funeral Home Brampton on Jan 23 Interment was at the Cemetery Bramp ton on Jan 24 at pm A memorial service followed at the Holland Christian Home Ebenezer Centre Rev Homer Samplonius conducted the vice The sermon was based on Psalm 42 Hope in God I will yet praise Him Pallbearers were Ronald Ravi Henry Dykstra Glenn Hofland Slebren Postma Annual meeting During the morning service at Norval United Church on Feb 3 Allyson Warner representing the Halton Adolescent Support Ser vices spoke on Emergency and Long Term Housing Registry Allyson went on to say that even in Georgetown there is a need for kids on the street with no place to go These particular young peo ple are not on drugs but because of conflicts in the home are not able to cope Anyone able to help out for a short time would be ap- Rev Walter con ducted the service and inducted the new elders Fred Paul and Bill He was assisted by a delicious Valen tines desert lunch A video on the Royal Family was most en joyable that took in the Queen Victoria era their families entertainment castles and palaces Many thanks to the Bar- for
