skiing skills helped Goergetown girls team place third in competition at Glen Eden on Feb Herald photo Milton ended Georgetown Bruins hopes of advanc further on the Ontario Minor Hockey Association by defeating the local duo 32 at arena last Sun day The game terminated a closely contested series that gave local fans a taste of close wellplayed hockey All four games saw the margin of victory a single goal There were two ten minute overtime games in the best of five series The final game saw Georgetown eliminated on a Milton goal that was scored with one second remaining in regula Georgetown opened the scoring midway through the first when Scott tipped in a shot from Kevin David Boere also assisted on the play Milton tied the score late in the second period and gained a 2 lead at the ten minute mark of the third penod David Boere made the score 2 2 on a goal assisted by Wes Burke After being eliminated by Milton in the playdowns Georgetown then travelled to Streetsville on the following Saturday to begin Tncounty championship The game with Streetsville was close ly matched and saw the Bodanis Bruins emerge victorious Georgetown jumped to an early lead as they dominated early first period action David scored Georgetowns first goal assisted by Scott Shortly afterwards David Kotsos put the Bruins ahead on a goal assisted by Gary McNeily Two minutes later Scott gave Georgetown a 34 lead on a play set up by Burke and defenceman Thorn With only two minutes remaining in the period Streetsville stormed back and scored two quick goals to end the trailing The second saw both Georgetown and Streetsville score two goals apiece Gary McLean scored for Georgetown on a play set up in the Georgetown end zone and assisted by Brad Spears Georgetowns second goal of the with their backs to the wall Halton started out by jumping out to an early 20 lead but were unable to hold off the reinforced Burlington offence who rallied for four unanswered goals to win the game and take a Two Georgetown students help Selects take gold Two Georgetown District High School students Kelly Cotton and Holly Sones helped their Peel Selects junior volleyball team go undefeated in a tournament on the weekend their fourth gold medal finish in two months At High School in Brampton on Saturday Selects finished atop their pool which in eluded Waterloo Tigers of Toronto and Hamilton Seekers In the semi final the Peel team defeated Titans and took the gold with a 1510 win over Waterloo Tigers One of the major problems for Selects has been in finding com petition to improve their skills There are five provincial team members on the team and four of those players attended the tional team camp in over the Christmas break One member Lisa was sign ed with the Canadian team for this September Peel Selects are not eligible for school tournaments in the United States because they are considered college players due to the fact that U S schools only go to grade 12 and the majority of Selects are grade 13 students In order to prepare for the up coming provincial champion ships at Mayfield on April and possibly the nationals in Win nipeg on May 1 the team is plan rung to travel to the University of Buffalo Ohio State and Pitt for exhibition games in March stranglehold on the series As in last Sunday s opener the addition of three affiliated players to Burlingtons line up paid big dividends in the latter stages of the game On Friday it was back to Burl and for Hurricanes there was no tomorrow if they lost To make matters worse Halton was short one winger giving Burl a four man offensive ad vantage Things did not start well for Halton who found themselves down a goal with just 32 seconds off the clock However at 31 of the second period at the tail end of a Halton tied the game atone After this goal the flow of the game turned quickly in Burl favour and by the mid way point of the third period they had a lead and the series vie tory Halton will now drop back
