of Hornby who passed away at the Essex County Nursing Home on Feb Beloved wife of the late Fred and dear sister of Mrs Violet Mrs Dorshe Taylor and Miss Olive Damell all of Box Wiltshire England and sisterinlaw Mrs Phylis Daniel of Trowbridge Wiltshire England Mrs Shipp is also sur by many and nephews in England Mrs Shipp spent her 105th bir thday in hospital on Feb I however she returned to the nurs ing home but was never quite her old chipper self She had only been a resident there for less than a year as she loved being In her own home up to that time Mrs enjoyed her birthday party to the fullest when she received lions from Queen Elizabeth as well as members of the federal and provincial governments as well as Essex- Council Her sister Taylor and nephew Brian were special guests over from England Mrs Shipp was a devoted member of St Pauls Anglican Church in Essex where funeral service was held on Feb at 1 Rev John Postons con ducted the service and fondly recalled the many conversations with Mrs Shipp as she recalled her life span and the countless memories of her years Interment was in Trinity Cemetery Cottora Following the bunal refreshments were served in the church hall THE END OF AN ERA For many people Mrs passing was the end of an era for Bill and Audrey Morgan and Jean Boos all of Essex who tend ed to hfr many errands during the last few years as well as Spencer and Kay Wilson and Hyatt and Charlotte ail of Norval and Norman and Ver Wilson of all of whom have kept in close contact for over years Mrs Shipps three sisters sisterinlaw and husbands all visited at Norval when they each made their only trip to Canada Mrs Shipp was the oldest of eight children in the fami ly who lived near Bath England and when a very young child went to live with her granny She was a Red Cross nurse during World War I Mrs Shipp was Interested in the theatre and opera and followed the arts and drama She married Fred Shipp on Nov 25 1919 on his return from Canada Following this mar riage they returned to Canada and lived in Toronto for a period of 10 years when Mr Shipp con tinued his contracting jobs In 1928 they moved to the Horn by area where they took up far ming at R 1 and went into the dairy business At the same time Mr continued with road building projects They attended St Stephens Anglican Church Hornby However with the beginning of the depression years the chur ches finances were not great Mrs Shipp offered to direct a pageant was staged on the Shipps front lawn on a warm summer evening Members of the church a number of Junior Farmers their parents as well as many farm families in the area numbering met weekly and practised on the farm lawn of R J Graham later the Ford Wickson Farm on Trafalgar Road The Coming of the White Man went over well with the In dians being forced off their land by the White Man in their covered wagons Lovely old songs In Love Call and Wagon Wheels with many more added to the pageant Also the Minuet Waltz with 12 couples the ladies in their rainbow colored crepe paper dresses and the men in their dark suits with white shirts and black bow ties added much to the show Again in the early 30s Norval Presbyterian Church members were instrumental in staging an Old Tyme Concert Here again Mrs along with the late M Montgomery author of the Anne books and renowned Anne of Green Gables coach ed the group Montgomery was the wife of the Minister in Norval Mrs Shipp also coached plays for the Norval Junior Farmers Drama Competition In 1939 the Shipps moved to Windsor and later to the town of Essex where they again were ac tive in their community and church Mr Shipp passed away in but Mrs Shipp continued to live here until the time of her death Visits with Mrs Shipp were looked forward to as her stones and tales could keep you mesmerized for hours Her old fashioned health remedies that passed the test of time in her 105 years werent to be taken lightly A lovely gracious lady Ellen Shipp will
