League and the Ontario Minor Hockey tion could be eased if the dian Amateur Hockey grants their application for branch status later this year Hal Pells president of the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association which is part of the OMHA said the two groups would be able to communicate more effectively with each other if they were given more power to Gymnastic success Two local gymnasts Angela Stiles 13 and Katie Rowland 9 helped their club place above most of the competition at a meet In Buffalo New York March Stiles a member of the Bramalea Gym Club senior team finished overall among 150 other girls assisting her team to a second place finish over 14 other teams Rowland finished third on the junior team and individually Herald photo do so It would help us work better more directly between each organization instead of having to operate through the Ontario Hockey Federation Pells said some of the dif ferences between the two groups extend to the OMHA taking punitive action against any of its teams that play in tour not sanctioned by the association They don abide by certain rules that the OMHA has and as a result our teams dont travel to events organized by the MTHL They come up here to the midget and bantam tour naments and most of them usually cooperate with our guidelines Pells said one of midget teams refused to wear neck guards at this year s tourna ment an requirement but were allowed to play He said there are several such the two groups might be able to settle if they were given more power to make changes The contains several hockey groups including the OMHA and the major junior Ontario Hockey League and its system has been criticized for not being effective The federation was created two years ago to resolve similar problems but due to the size of the groups players between OMHA and the organizations now want more direct control Pells said the OMHA will be having its annual general meeting the first week of June and will be discussing the pro posal now before the CAHA A decision is expected to be made before the start of the 199192 season Georgetown Raiders honor team members By ROBERT RISK Herald Sports Editor Georgetown Raiders B hockey team honored its players and staff at its annual awards night held Wednesday at Hall Team president and acting general manager Finn said that even though the team finished second last and were swept from the first round of the playoffs improvements could be seen in the team Its tough to give your best when you re losing but many of you gave per cent despite it all We t the most suc cessful team in terms of wins or the playoff rounds but we did move up from the bottom of the league against an even tougher opposition also pointed out at tendance was up per cent over last year and more was col this season from the fan club A bright spot was that the team doubled its winning and with players eligible to return Raiders will be a tougher more experienced team next season We did manage to beat every team in our league at least once including Oakville who we didn t defeat once last year We ve already gotten next year under way with a fundraising dance scheduled here for June 1 beach party theme Halton Hills Mayor Miller was the first to present a trophy at the event awarding the most defensive player trophy to John Williamson McFadyen praised player Mike Wilson for his ability to learn and improve as the season progress ed As a result Wilson was prevented with the Most ed Player Award Few players are as deserving of this award than this player who always showed he was will ing to try He came out and played hard in every game and he is destined to have a good future in hockey with that at titude McFadyen also had positive words for Rob who he presented with the Most Valuable Player Trophy The coach Doucette for his ability to lead by example on the ice Rookie of the year honors went to Charlie Humber while Bill McDonald was ven the Three Star Award by finishing at the top of the team in votes at the end of the season Matt Rudmcki was given the learn Captain Award Duane Lewis won two awards this year one for player of the year and the other for being the Raider with the highest marks at Georgetown District High School Other members of the team were honored as weir including trainer Chris Kelly and equip ment manager Milton Casey Hills Mayor Milter presented Raider player John Williamson with the Miller family s most defensive player award al he Georgetown earn s awards night at Hall on Wednesday Williamson was credited for being the cornerstone of the team
