Entertainment Georgetown Choral Society 20 years young Herald Special Twenty Years Young In the spring of 1971 brave souls spawned the Georgetown Choral Society wasted little time having their first concert in June at the high school It is impossible not to connect the choirs founding with the late Ralph Ursel This inspirational leader had the priceless gift of building strong secure yet covert foundations while leaving the painting and decorating to others So Ralph became the ac companist to Charles Crimes direction Rehearsals took place in Ralphs Music Room at the school Joan Grosforth Violet Haines Joyce Joane Vivian Mills and Lynn remain from those original ladies and Doug Cole presently on a short from the men Not quite of the original members continue to sing in local church choirs However the choir has lost some stalwarts May Beaumont Merrill Ralph Ursel and Del of the originals Many of the originals continue to play key roles in the choir from ticket convening telephone com mittee to archivist The problems from the earlier days are quite similar to those the choir faces to day In the early days there was dif ficulty finding a suitable concert hall one which had resonance and a seating capacity The Choral Society tried but finances and local obligations had them play at home at Georgetown District High School Their first garments cost and there were debates as to the proper length for the fall of the skirt Today the material costs three times as much but todays Dress Director Sandra Krosse can be heard defining the instep and en- Orf ord String Quartet to visit Brampton The world renowned Orford String Quartet comes to Bramp tons Heritage Theatre for a very special concert on Friday April 1991 This season marks the an niversary for the quartet which began in Mt Quebec However thiB season also marks the final for the The Or ford String Quartet will disband in July which means this concert provides a rare opportunity for Brampton area audiences William Littler the Toronto Stars music critic reported recently The Orford after all is the finest string quartet Canada has ever produced and one of the finest produced anywhere during the past quarter century The Heritage Theatre concert program will include Mozarts String Quartet in F Major Dimitri Scostakovichs Quartet for Strings no and Beethovens Opus 135 in Major Tickets for the Orford
