THE WEEKEND OUTLOOK Friday March 11 Religion The Easter story is one of integrity The Paschal March Trie story of Easter is a story of integrity Many of my have been preparing recently to enter the job market For most of them preparation includes buying new clothes notwithstanding Thoreaus suspicion about any job that would require someone to do such a thing believed that there is a correspondence between who people are and what they do You might say that the person and the work are one or are becoming one and that this unify is reflected in clothing In our Easter readings we see the perfect correspondence bet ween the person of Jesus and his work of perfect love this cor respondence is reflected in Jesus cloth In fact over the course of the Triduum we will see the life and work of Jesus told in his clothing He will be stripped then wrapped in burial cloths On Easter Sun day these same burial cloths now discarded will point to the resurrected Christ the Christ of Glory The work of the three days of the Passion and the Resurrection of Christ is dramatized in the readings of Holy Thursday In the Religion and Reality by Jim Ryan upper room Jesus prepares for his perfect work of love the lay down of his life by laying down his cloak by girding himself and by washing the feet of his disciples JESUS AND MY FATHER Understanding the life of Jesus has been made easy for us We have almost two thousand years of interpretation We think we know all that needs to be known The most we have to do we are told is to reinterpret him for ourselves for today In our c r what would he do How are we to act our own world in a wa that make him present But I don think we can assume that we do completely understand him even though we have the witness of Gospel writers the dogmas of Councils and the reflection and praxis of countless Christians Maybe this is obvious to you I began to think about it last weekend when over dinner my wife and I started talking about our parents It really an ongo ing discussion When I think of my father who died five years ago I find myself doing what the Gospel writers have done with Jesus tgrying to interpret how he felt what he meant by what he did My father is more difficult to understand however because he didn t talk very much Unlike Jesus who was both a teacher and a miracle worker my father was just a worker He t say much This is not to say that teachers or anyone who talks a lot reveals the truth about themselves in what they say As a young man in high school I have great difficulty ding him Even now I have very little certainty about him He never talked about his inner life I have to make surmises from th ngs he did and the in direct things that he said DOGMA I not comfortable making dogmatic statements about my father This suggests one of two You ve just visited your physi cian The diagnosis Surgery and a brief stay in the hospital What your next step For many Hills residents their hospital of choice is Georgetown and District Memorial a 112 bed primary acute and long term care facility that has been serving the com munity since For the past years the Hospital has been increasing its surgical capabilities and today handles general gynecological and orthopaedic surgery In addi other services include and oral surgery as well as surgical treatment by an Ear Nose and Throat specialist General surgical procedures may range from gall bladder removal bowel surgery varicose veins hernias and tendon repairs In addition surgeons also handle other procedures such as abdominal surgery and the removal of breast lumps The majority of surgery car ried out at Georgetown Hospital is elective However for some of the more serious cases emergen cy surgery is also performed In certain situations for those patients that may require specific monitoring or an extend ed stay in a specialized unit they are transferred to a larger near by hospital which is equipped with more comprehensive facilities Georgetown Hospital has three on staff general surgeons Mohan Bradley and Newhook who share the surgical respon that can range from routine operations to the more delicate endoscopic surgery where they microscopically ex amine a patient stomach or col on to detect the presence of ulcers and tumors The chief of Obstetrics is Valerie Kumar Along with her support team she performs sections tubal lions and other gynecological procedures You ve made your decision to have the at Georgetown Hospital It close to home and is easily accessible for visits from GEORGETOWN HOSPfTAL family and fnends Once the necessary surgical procedure has been scheduled patients are routinely admitted to the Hospital 24bed Surgical Ward prior to the operation In all cases routine tests are necessary to fully prepare the pa tient for the surgery After the operation patients are then transferred from OR to the Recovery Room Here a team of medical professionals monitor all stages of the early recovery process Occasionally patients may also require short term specialized monitoring in the Hospital s Intensive Care Unit As patients recovery process continues they are moved back onto the Surgical Ward under the care of Nurse Manager and her team of highly trained nurses Through weekly multi disciplinary rounds the RNs and RNAs Registered Nursing Assistants meet with the Rehabilitation department the clinical dietician and social worker Eunice as well as other staff members During these sessions each patient s progress is carefully reviewed and discussed This team ap proach has long proven to be a successful method of providing total in patient care In addition Georgetown Hospital has recently im plemented the Pastoral Care Pro gram which has daily on call members from the local clergy available to address patients spiritual needs Throughout the hospital stay patient education plays a vital role in recuperation For some in dividuals an educational video may offer them all the necessary instruction they need While there are others like the patient requiring special deepbreathing exercises to combat pulmonary problems or the patient who re quires instruction on personal care routines provided by a therapist who may need more specialized teaching Ultimately the Hospital s primary goal is to ensure that in patient services are geared to the needs of each individual Your recovery is almost com plete It now time to return to the familiar and comfortable sur roundings of home At the time of admission and again at discharge the Hospita1 s Discharge Planner and other staff members evaluate each pa tient Prior to the actual discharge the Discharge Plan again reviews the files to determine if follow up outside care is required For some individuals round the clock care is no longer re quired However they may need a certain level of at home medical assistance Rae is a Home Care Program dinator with Halton Region Health Department On a regular basis she meets with patients physicians and other members of the Hospital staff to analyze what community services are re quired Perhaps it a visiting nurse who comes into the home daily simply to handle dressing changes Or it might be help from physiotherapists speech and therapists services or meals on wheels Whatever the situa there are a wide variety of community programs available to further speed the recovery pro cess So if surgery is the solution to your medical problem discuss your options with your physician and remember Georgetown Hospital can provide you with the right care right here in your home community things either I haven thought it out enough in other words it can be done but I haven t done it yet or people just can t be captured by dogmatic statements As George Buchner writes Every man is an abyss you get dizzy when you look down CHURCH DIRECTORY ee Georgetown Hospital provides special surgical care NON DENOMINATIONAL PENTECOSTAL ALL
