curling their best shot every Thursday night over the course of the winter months at Georgetowns North Golf and Country Club The Industrial Leagues commence on Thursday April and finish with a full day of curling on Saturday April In recapping the season there was the Insurance Rockers team who had won the 196990 playdowns and had set its 199091 sights on the league champions crown Showing more consistency and working on the little things which make a solid team along with a little old- fashioned luck they attained their regular season goal Finishing second but bound to be in peak form for describe this team Opponents are never sure which JAWS team Is going to play Seventh place was nailed down by La Guys a team plagued by having to go with a makeshift lineup and thereby a team which has had to play with a great deal of adversity A slow start to the season was followed by a strong showing in the second draw for the eighth place rink Bill Smith Auto The Senators closed the season in ninth spot but they are always a team to be taken seriously If they can get their opponents into a draw game the advantage is more often than not In their favour Tenth place belongs to one this seasons revamped teams The Norval Boys Finishing eleventh were the Challengers This Paul Barber squad sported a new lead Ron and found itself almost always in the middle of the pack Kendale Hackers a weekend Georgetown Beaver Lumber Major Novice team had a weekend playing in the Streetsville tournament on Fri day and the Tyke hockey tournament on Saturday at Maple Leaf Gardens as their season came to a close Lumbermen were eliminated from the annual Streetsville tournament by virtue of a 32 loss to the Penetang Bryants Jeweller club The first two games of the tourney were played against the Shoppers Drug Mart team with total goals being the deciding factor Georgetown lost this series five goals to four with the games being split 11 Georgetown won the 1st game 20 and lost the second The second game against Oshawa was highlighted by Brent McClungs goal assisted by Scott Ellis at of the second period to bring the score to 21 in Oshawas favor Lumbermen scored again in the third period with Matt finding the twine assisted by Dan Smith on a scramble play at the mark This made the score Oshawa finished the scoring at the 20 se cond mark to win the series and the game The third game of this tourna ment was a real thriller with Penetang the eventual victor 32 After a scoreless first period Dan Smith put the Lumbermen in front with an unassisted goal after deking out the goaltender Matt Hotham put the Lumbermen ahead 20 by conver ting a pass by Scott Ellis while at the 224 mark of the third period Penetang then scored three goals in a span of 137 to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat Notable Georgetown con tributors included Roddy Heinz Tyler and Ryan Carter in goal Trevor Cash Jay Campbell and Jay Hayes Lumbermen came up big at Maple Leaf Gardens on Saturday with their finest offensive display of the season a victory against Torontos Bert Robinson AllStars in the 36th annual Tyke hockey tournament The first period saw Jay Camp bell open the scoring at the mark on an unassisted breakaway from centre ice with a to put the Lumbermen ahead Brent McClung put the Georgetown club up with a high shot just under the crossbar from the slot assisted by Scott Ellis and Jamie at the 331 mark Matt finished off the scoring in the first period at the 651 mark with a behind the net goal assisted by Roddy Heinz The score at the end of the first period was Georgetown 3 Toron to The second period saw Brent McClung complete his hat trick with two efforts at and 640 Jay Hayes assisted on the goal by McClung Trevor Cash converted a rebound at 757 to br ing the score to Dan Smith converted a threeway pass play with Heinz and Hotham to bring the second period to a close with Georgetown leading The third period found Bryan Stuttard scoring at 346 assisted by Roddy Heinz Dan Smith clos ed out the scoring at 556 assisted by Jamie and Joshua Travers Final score Georgetown Toronto Notable Georgetown con tributors included shutout goaltending by Tyler and Ryan Carter and solid twoway performances from Derrick Elliot and Ryan Bobor This tournament raised for the Easter Seal Socie ty Derrick Elliot and Jamie Larocque both won a oneweek hockey school engagement for selling the most tickets and respectively Ryan Carter Tyler Pearce Scott Ellis Bryan Stuttard Derek Elliot and Jamie Larocque all received pla ques for selling in excess of Lumbermen were eliminated from the TriCounty playoffs By virtue of a tiebreaking method that the team would like to see changed They finished the roundrobin series with a record iden tical to the Rangers In head to head competition bet ween Georgetown and Oakville Georgetown won one game and tied the other The deciding fac tor to break the tie was not head to head competition but rather the goal differential in each
