Honor Ridout Eddy Morassutti and Jack Ridout all experienced Rodgers and Hammerstein cianados and performers But aside from the exceptional cast and celebrated production team the real star of the evening will be the immortal songs and shows of and Mortal Thoughts gripping gritty By Herald Special Mortal Thoughts is a gritty fascinating look at domestic violence and murder An ex cellent cast enhances a good script with enough twists thrown in to keep the audience on its toes Joyce and Cynthia are two at tractive and bright women who have been friends since childhood All grown up and in the business now the women have each married men unworthy of them Cynthia Demi Moore Is wed to Arthur John Pankow a salesman who never stops selling while Joyce Glenn Headley mames Jim my Bruce Willis a violent abuse druggie From the wedding on we see that Jimmy is a rotten scoundrel beating Joyce taking money from her constantly stoned and always hitting on Cynthia At the end of five years of marriage Joyce is ready to kill him And so it seems that is exactly what she does Joyces story is told by Cyn thia who sits in a police station from the beginning of the film explaining all to a suspicious detective Harvey Keitel The detective finds a few holes in the story and the clues are there for the audience to find although nothing Is too obvious Is it all as Cynthia says it was an accident followed by a desperate cover up or was it far more premeditated than that Ill say no more it would be unfair to reveal anything else From the moment Moore sits down to tell her version of the events one is hooked There is a realistic feeling to all this perhaps because of the New Jersey accents and the setting The domestic violence is suitably portrayed and sufficient shocking we are rooting for the untimely demise of James One question never satisfactorily answered Is why did Joyce marry him in the first place Apparently she thought him a catch although we are given no reason at all to believe this Demi Moore heads a super cast where everyone is utterly believable and Bruce Willis seems a natural for his role as pond scum Harvey also stands out but then he is always an actor one pays attention to Mortal Thoughts is a fine film gripping and gritty well worth the price of admission I would have ended the movie before the final scene but them I like unanswered questions The plot is not predictable nor filled with cliches Unfortunately that isnt something one can often say about movies these days tenant GEORGETOWN CINEMAS 235 STREET 8731999 LAST DAYS
