will become overweight A recent study by obesity experts of Tufts University Medical School and Harvard Medical School have shown a strong relationship between the number of hours of TV watching and the amount of obesi ty Approximately 1400 youngsters and adolescents were studied It was found that those who watched the most daily TV were significant ly more obese or super obese than peers who spent less time wat ching For every additional hour adolescents viewed TV the number of children who were obese rose two per cent Obese children have a tendency to be less active and thus watch more television The survey concluded that the obesity in these children occurred because of TV watching It found their lifestyles were otherwise identical to normal weight children Considering that watching TV uses up about as many calories as sleeping you can see one reason for the studys results Another factor is that most childrens programs advertise nutritious foods on a regular basis This constant bombardment of food commercials led to another study that showed the more television children watch the more they snack Summer is coming and it doesnt take very long after school ends that boredom sets in Keep your children busy this summer and limit the amount of televi sion they watch Dont let your television become a substitute babysit ter Help your children find alternatives to television that require activi ty and give them less opportunity to snack on nonnutritious or fatten ing foods COMMUNITY SPORTS CALENDAR ATTENTION ALL SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS To Place Your Upcoming EVENT
