r it the HERALD Wednesday July 17 1991 Council Briefs Glen residents concerned about water supply Despite claims by a consultant for Halton Hills Sand and Gravel that water levels in nearby wells in Glen Williams wont be affected by a proposed subdivi sion councillors decided not to approve his application for a zon tag change until a report of the areas groundwater is received in about a months time Clare of Con sultants informed council Monday that a number of wells had been dug on the sight of the proposed housing subdivision in an attempt to determine if the subdivision would affect neighboring wells We pumped the daylights out of a number of wells In the area and there was no adjustment to water levels in nearby wells he said But when questioned he ad mitted only one well was tested A resident who has lived in Glen Williams for years said Obituary DeaM Taylor Georgetown resident Allan Dean Taylor who was in strumental m establishing the Georgetown Kinsmen and the Kincourt seniors home in Georgetown died July 11 at- the age of 62 of pancreatic and liver cancer He was the biggest influence in getting the Kinsmen started said Bill Hewitt Mr Taylors friend and a past president of the Georgetown Kinsmen He was a real gogetter and was also the person who put the Kincourt pro ject together Known as a leader a man who loved children and a good friend Mr Taylor was well respected by his fellow Kinsmen and the com Mr Hewitt said if you wanted a Mr Taylor would be a for life He was a good one He was a friend to most peo pie who met him recalls son Bill Taylor of Georgetown He always had a smile on his face Mr Taylor said his dad shared his smiles with other neighborhood children as a coach and umpire for the former Georgetown girl s softball league as an executive member for the Georgetown Geminis now Georgetown Raiders and as an organizer of Georgetown Bantam hockey Mr Taylor was also a hard working man said his son From until January of this year Mr Taylor worked as a sales representative for a Woodbndgc company called Amsco Bill Taylor is one of three children Mr Taylor leaves behind He also leaves behind hi wife Lorna whom he married in 1952 and children Karen and her husband John Bradley of Caledon and Gary of Georgetown Mr Taylor was also a grand father to four grandchildren and brother to Fran of Georgetown and Betty Ann Luck of Toronto His mother Marguerite is still living m Georgetown Friends of Mr Taylor were received at the J S Jones and Son Funeral Home in Georgetown Ju 14 and interment was at Green wood Cemetery Monday she had a petition signed by people in Glen Williams urging council to defer the resolution un til a study on water availability was completed Council voted unanimously to defer the application Fees waived Rental fees for the Cedarvale Gym were waived by council for August 24 and when the Cana dian Red Cross Society Georgetown and District Branch will be hosting a first aid course Parks fate undecided Local environmentalists and Harold Street residents showed up at the Town of Hills council meeting Monday night to support the preservation of the natural wooded state of the pro perty adjacent to Park Public School and the Georgetown Fairgrounds That park is a little treasure and should be protected said longtime Georgtown resident Steamer Emmerson Protect Our Water and En vironmental Resources POWER president Barbara Halsall also stated the land should be protected but express ed her concern that the land could be used for parking under the same rezoning that would protect its natural state Planning Director Ian Keith said he is planning to meet with the town lawyer to see if it is possible that the present council could draft a bylaw restricting future councils Bike Tour Days Main Street to close Council Monday granted a re quest from the Georgetown Cen Business Improvement Area to close a portion of Mam Street from Church Street to James Street from p m until mid night on August for Annual Moonlight Madness celebrations Public opposition to proposal Several residents said Monday if council supports a proposed amendment to allow a contrac tors yard to be built on the west side of Winston Churchill Boulevard south of Steeles Avenue theyll only be creating more mess Now that area is the closest thing to a regional dump Ive ever seen said resident
