the HERALD Wednesday 1991 Sports Soccer shows 1 0 per cent increase over 1 989 Alex Tough Funny just writing about van and fields so also unbeknown was an editorial We have had a fair amount of damage in the past few weeks in spite of vigils by officials police and custodians of the grounds the trouble being done whilst grounds are unattended The burying of broken beer bot ties in the goalmouths at Cedar vale is particularly vicious and could have caused serious injury to young players At least one game was called off due to the of stupid persons Nets rip ped up can surely give no great pleasure either yet I suppose it must give the nerds some satisfaction 1 hope they are caught and are punished for their acts and not just community work as their punishment How about stooping to their level An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth Bill had had to step down as a game official after many years of serving the game at youth and senior level Another one of the early soccer pioneers his body has gone the way of others sad to say Bill is ex some pain when on the move and is forced to retire Still we hope to see Bill around the fields as a supporter now and then Soccer is not all on the field a great deal of the game goes on off of it I spent the weekend in Toronto closeted with others attempting to solve problems and point the way into the future at the quarterly meeting of the pro association Items of con and change abound in the areas of mini soccer discipline and appeals pyramid for play finance coaching referees player development tour naments and boundary and age changes The news will filter down the line in the next few mon The Annual Trade Show is November 3 The venue as usual is the Skyline Hotel Toron to The Awards Dmnpr and Dance will take place on the Saturday evening Roger Faulkner Chairman of the USA World Cup bid will be a guest speaker amongst others and the will be Vic Rauter broadcaster There will also be several workshops which now prove to be invaluable to all officials showed a player growth of almost per cent over 1989 The increase comes in senior recrea tional and mini soccer age groups where 66 per cent of alt registrations are The period also showed the usual loss of young and first year game officials by the usual 35 per cent of the total registration Too much An ex cellent coaching booklet for young players has been produced and will likely be available when the Trade Show comes around The booklet is a 35page easy to follow production suitable for six to 12 year old players with diagrams descriptions and pie practises The laws of the game are also highlighted in a simple fashion Now to the Inter Cunty news Mersey handed out a loss to Mariners who fell short of in this most crucial of crucial matches Mariners are now out of the first place race and Mersey only require a point for the title Meteor kept in the challenge with a win over Marhn they require a win and a Mersey loss next week to have a chance Eagles were leading United 10 with less than minutes left for play when the lights failed The lights failure also caused the Triangle call off Another call off was the MiltonStingers contest due to player shortage Blazers caught the rising Gunners with a vie tory to keep them in line for the second division title This evening Wednesday has Manners going to to tilt with United at 6 Eagles host Meteor at Cedarvale at 8 p m and Acton entertain Mersey Villa will be hoping for a full turnout and a slight improve ment in fortune The away game had Villa leading by one goal with minutes left and they lost by one goal Blazers Old Triangle at at 00 p m and Stingers Gunners follow at 8 45 p m lights permitting of course Fitzpatricks three goal night leads soccer Falcons to victory By DAVE ALONE Y Herald Special Rick grabbed his second hat trick of the season and Hole came close to grab bing one of his own as Georgetown Falcons downed Bolton 61 Friday night at Alcott field staked Falcons to an early lead when he scored his first goal after about 10 minutes of play but Falcons struggled to find its form during the first half of the game and Bolton scored the equalizer shortly before the half Once again Falcons had outplayed the opposition with nothing to show for it The second half belonged to Falcons as the roof caved on Bolton Steve Swinscoe who was having his best game of the season was fouled in the penalty area and this created a problem for Falcons Who would take the penalty kick So far this season Falcons have missed six op portumties to convert a penalty so nobody was anxious to step up and take the kick Finally stepped up and cooly placed his shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net Five minutes later he again put the ball into the Bolton net to give Falcons a commanding 3 1 lead Now it was Holes turn to put on a show scoring the next two goals with cool dehbera tion Only the goalpost prevented him from making it three Hole and continued to play a strong game for Falcons and the three of them combined to give his fourth and Falcons sixth goal with 10 minutes left in the game A good win for Falcons who only dropped one game in the last seven COMMUNITY
