the HERALD- Wednesday August 1991 Sports Undefeated Limehouse Atoms sweep baseball championship Limehouse White Atom boys capped off an unbeaten regular season by claiming the playoff championship in three straight games on the weekend Game ones pitcher Chris Scul ly led the way with nine strikeouts against Acton Blue while adding a homerun and a run to the score Two runs from David Lajeunesse and one each from Kevin Arnold Ryan Bailey and Nathan French gave the team the lead they needed for the final 76 score gained an easy 275 win in game two against Acton Red with seven strikeouts by Scully and four by second pitcher Baileys five runs led the way followed by four each from Scully Arnold and La Two runs plus a homer from French along with extra runs by Mark Bailey Paul Payne Richard Anthony and Jamie Deforest brought the team to victory The third and final game against Acton Red ended at the top of the fifth with a 95 score Three strikeouts each by pit chers Andrew Coe Scully and jeaunesse along with five first base outs from Anthony and another at homeplate from French was all they needed Runs from Anthony Dave Lyons Ar nold Lajeunesse Ryan Bailey Mark Bailey and two from Scully along with a homer by Andrew Coefinishedjtoff Congratulations go to coaches Wayne French Rich Scully Joe Deforest and Mel Bailey as well as the whole Limehouse team for a job well done battle Friday night It wasnt a bloody reinactment of the recent Persian Gulf War but a determined push for a win by either the Bellamys Restaurant Expos or the Daves Service Centre Tigers of the Georgetown Baseball Associa tions combined Bantam-Midget- Juvenile league The game was played They the players are hang ing in there said Tigers coach Elaine Duke In every game theyre playing hard and theyre playing headsup Our guys came back very well Those words were echoed by Expos coach Doug Pennce whose only complaint involved absences Although nine players did make the 15 m game for boys between the ages of and 19 years it was nearly cancelled because of poor turnout That could have nudged the op ponents score this season from its already nearperfect record which stood at seven wins one loss and no lies Expos were holders of a record The bottom of the first inning saw Eric and Mark Mit chell each hit triples while team mates Carl Elgin and Joel Koeslag walked Expos were leading at the end of that inn ing Elgin wenl home on an error at the bottom of the second inning giving the team another run Later Tiger Jeff Edwards knocked in fellow player Scott Wilson A score placed their learn in the record books for the first time that night in the top of the third inning In the top of the fourth Expos thought they tasted victory when Mark Dodson and Ryan Handford came in prior to a threerun homer by Dave Vanderbyl Driving in Dave Welburn the team came out of the inning with a advantage over Tigers Elgin and then scored two runs for the red and white Expos At the bottom of the fourth inning they were winning A sacrifice run by Greg Horner brought teammate Mark Boucher at the top of the fifth inn ing closing the gap between Ex pos and Tigers by Iwo runs In the bottom of that inning Elgin ran a double for Expos wedging his team ahead of the Tigers Tigers fought back in the top of the sixth inning despite earlier threats of rain on the diamond A 1010 tie resulted when Hand- ford was able to hit Jerry Saunders into the game coming in off Mark Dodson Expos Marcel Blais scored a double in the bottom of the same inning The score was 1210 for his team Even afler Tigers managed to score three runs and base hits by Wilson Horner and Jason Duke Expos Koeslag and Blais scored one more run before closing the game on a tied note Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons Course had a good night in the field Diane Saunders scored two runs along with Melanie also scoring two Debbie Tatham went three for four at bat and Deborah Gilmore stole a base for the first time this year Champagne on Ice 8 Infield Flies Champagne was fizzing as Wendy Shannon hit a home run right off one of the Flies cars Paulette hit a triple and a double and had three Peggy had two and Marilyn Pilgram made three great catches Flies were buzzing as Janet ruled on the mound Sue McDonald hit a triple Carolyn Gingras hit a double and was good in the field Linda Arm strong went four for four at bat AUGUST 12TH Tarts Green Monsters 14 Monsters got creamed as Rhon da Ritchie hit a home run a dou ble and players couldnt hit a ball past her Irene Van and Mary McLaughlin each hit a tri ple Gail Sheppard had two doubles hit one For the Monsters Jennifer Reynolds had three doubles and twq Virginia Walker hit a double went three for three at bat with four RBIs and Linda Ander son had one RBI and scored two runs She Devils 17 Black Widows 8 Devils held the Widows spell bound with great pitching by Chris Stoyles and Dob bins Ruby Gingras Sproule and Hermania Henderson each hit a double Liz Doell made a great even with a sore finger For the Widows Tammy and Hewson hit back to back home runs in he fourth inning Diane SaunclTS Yvonne Readman and Leaiine Hall each hit a double Robin
