candidates will best represent us for the next three years in council We have not heard much about the issues to this point We have all been to busy ducking from all the Mud Slinging Come on Candidates GET to the issues Rural residents are concerned over water and how develop ment will affect their future All of us are concerned over the Acton Dump Site We are concerned over planned development BUT to this point in the campaign not many concrete ideas have come out of the mouths of the candidates Some candidates seem to have gotten stuck in low gear or cannot get off one issue Others skirt the issues with rhetoric and others prefer to sling mud WAKE UP Halton Hills Smell the Roses Tuesday November 12th is our time to mark our ballot for the future of Hills We should listen to the candidates and ask questions Oh its true we may not like the answers BUT lets set aside our emotions and make an informed decision It is not enough to assume any one candidate will be elec ted or reelected it is the responsibility of each and everyone to Get Out and Vote Our vote will help mould the future of Halton Hills and the future of our neighbours Its our Town Its our Get Out and Vote be part of the decision Community Forum Are dirty politics affecting local election DEBRA BANNISTER Georgetown No system is perfect Voters should look at past records of the candidates and they should not be judged by rumors JO YOUNG Terra It affects every election in some way but most people s choice probably will not be affected SONNY A J HAM Georgetown I dont think so but some people may think they should look for a better person RONALD BESSING Georgetown It wont make it any better Peoples Forum Election campaign sleazy To the Editor We are now in the midst of an election campaign that could be categorized as being sleazy many accusations have been made about candidates who are standing for office This as one part of the democratic process that I find abhorrent my word of advice to all candidates is stick to the issues As a long time resident of Georgetown I am concerned about the quality of life that we have Hills and the threats to individual freedoms in regards to property rights Many of the candidates running for office seem to have a lack of understanding of how the plann process works and this scares me The job as Councillor is an important position and I dont feel like paying for their on the job training they should do their homework prior to the election and from some of the statement it shows that they havent When you look back over the history of Georgetown we have seen it grow from about 3000 peo ple in 1950 to the 20 of today Many of the people who are to new growth would in fact not be living here if prior councils and residents did not make the decision to allow Georgetown to grow For those people to now say that We are here the town should stay small is selfish to say the least A list of developments that were opposed the past is sive this is just a partial list and if you there now ask younelf Is my neighborhood bad develop ment Silver Creek Apartments Harold St Gardiner Dr Georgetown South The Sands Princess Anne Jason Ores cent and the list goes on and on If past councils did not have the guts to approve many of these developments our town would be the worst for it Public input is vital to the development of this community and I would urge everyone to get the facts from the candidates those who oppose all develop- Old boys called into To the Editor I would to comment on the article in the Oct 30th edition of the Independent concerning Mayor Millers style of politics He was quoted as saying But someone from outside the com munity coming into town to get elected maybe thats the lengths hes willing to go to We moved to almost ten years ago however I have found whenever I have had to deal with the town both mayor and council the first thing they seem to ask is how long have I ed here They definitely seem to have an old boys network where they feel so secure that they do not have to try to work with the newcomers Twice now in dealing with Mr Miller regarding problems here the old boys seem to have won Back in 1988 Mr Miller moved the road at at the taxpayers expense rather than incur the wrath of Auto Wreckers and most recently when contacted about a dangerous rbad situation all he did was put up a sign that says are living in a dream world and will not be an effective My roots are in this town with four generations of my family ing here I am not about to see it destroyed but neither do I want it to stand still Yours truly Doug Pennce network question Appreciative bank To the Editor On behalf of the management of the Royal Bank of Canada 232 Guelph Street Georgetown we would like to thank the staff for their support in demonstrating sound judgement and patience during our robbery on October We are very proud of each and every staff member Also on behalf of all the staff we would like to thank the Hills Police and the Hills ire Georgetown Unit for their assistance on that day We would also like to thank our customers for their assistance and patience Management and Staff Royal Bank of Canada 232 St Georgetown Keep Right rather than close the road as we requested Apparent ly if we want further action we have to pursue it ourselves What are we paying taxes for But even worse than my two ex is the fact that if Mayor Miller does not like newcomers or people outside the community how will he listen to the residents of Canada Homes and Developments How will he listen to the new people who may eventually settle in Georgetown In the last election the old boys network told voters in Ac ton that if a new mayor was elected the council would not work with her Lets hope the old boys get the message this time It s time Halton Hills had a change she deserves better than this Sincerely Susan Cox Write us a letter The Herald wants to hear from you If you have an opinion you want
