a half so students should be at their bus stop by 2 pm With only two days to go there isnt much time left for you to contribute to out Toys for Tots campaign or the special Christmas Food Drive Your generosity at this time of year is very important to our communi ty Congratulations to our grade classes for raising over in their bake sale for the purchase of new toys for the children of Hills Thank you as well to over of you who attended our Christmas Concert last week therby funnelling some addi tional support to the Christmas Food Bank Our music students appreciated your support Christmas time is traditionally a time for spiritual renewal for appreciating family and friends and for cleansing the heart of any negative feelings that may have accumulated over the year At this special time of the year it is particularly important that we assure our children of our love and concern for them Spending precious moments with them can be the most significant influence on their fragile searching lives Where alcohol is involved especially at this time of year promise yourself and get your kids to promise NOT to get into a vehicle where the drivers judge ment may be impaired This community and in particular our young people have suffered too many tragedies as a result of alcohol abuse Best wishes to you and yours for a happy and safe holiday season Chair elected Vicechair Georgetown 8731211 mister GDHS music students tour public schools By TESTA Herald Special Another musical note from the High School On Friday December 6 the GDH S wind ensemble the youth band the stage band and the jazz choir performed several Christmas songs and Jazz pieces at Centennial and at Stewarttown PS Three bus loads of musical talent left early that morning to set up and perform for the younger students at both schools At Centennial the bands set up in a rather limited amount of room There was some anxiety among the performers but everyone was quite confident Instrumental students practis ed their instruments for a few minutes to get in tune The two music teachers Mrs Wallace and Mr began setting up and organizing the rather large group The choir practised in a separate room for some last minute touch ups on their songs and soon everything was set The Centennial crown was quite attentive and they seemed to have enjoyed the performance that the students put on for them The Wind Ensemble started the performance they played two songs Following them came a flute trio then the Youth Band which consists of Grade nine students Then the stage band performed two songs along with the Jazz Choir And in conclusion the Wind Ensemble performed Winter Games For their first show the students have performed reasonably well There were a few mistakes at one point but the audience did not seem to notice As for the rest of the show everyone performed exceptional ly well and Centennial enjoyed the performance Later on after the concert was over two students Michelle DeBraux and SarahLynn Ray gave the students a short speech regarding the music department They encouraged the younger students to enroll in the music courses offered at the school and they would welcome any body who would be interested in join ing any of the bands that per formed for them Then it was off to Stewarttown and again students set up their equipment and took their places to perform again The reception the students received was great All the younger students seemed to have enjoyed themselves and the high school students were generally satisfied with their per formance It was a
