Mike Toole of Glen Williams will probably never fly off into space m a space shuttle but he makes sure other people do He s the Head of Quality for Mobile Servicing System MSS an advanced robot which will assist in the assembly maintenance and service of Space Station a per manned station in outer space Space Station in the largest in temational project ever undertaken and Canada is playing a key role by manufacturing the station According to the Canadian Space Agency a newly established agency the MSS will be a roving space robot riding aboard Space Station It will play a primary role m Space Station assembly and maintenance moving equipment and supplies around the station releasing and capturing satellites supporting astronauts working in space and servicing instruments at to space station And Mr Toole is the man respon sible for overseeing the assembly of and it s programming tests It a lot of responsibility but Mr Toole says he was excited to join the team MIKE TOOLE He been involved in aerospace for several years most of them with a company called where he was also Head of Quality was involved in installing radar systems in airports Halton libraries receive 50000 By the end of year Hills library patrons may be able to access information from all of libraries through a com linkage system Libraries received funding from the Ontario Ministry of Culture and Com munications to proceed with the linkage system The funding is part of a 395 funding package to ex pand provincial library networks Although the funding won covtr the cost of linking Library computer Chief Librarian Bits excited just the same The capabilities to do this she said AIJ we ill of Hills is throw money at to get it going What this means to lib patrons is that instead of only being able to check out what s av in the Hills libanes they 11 be able to see what is available in all the libraries hi After finding the materials they want the library patron can then put a reserve on the book stations in Florida Alabama and T exas on behalf of Mr Toole also travels a lot in Ontario giving talks on aerospace to students in an attempt to generate interest in the field He was doing just that last week at Glen Williams Public School as part of their Winter program There will be a shortage of scientists and engineers over he next years he said That s why I want to promote and science in general He finds students especially public school aged children like in Glen Wiliams ver enthusiastic about space Students are alwavs extremely interested he said Two Glen Williams students who chose the Winter Elective on space Kevin Becker and Brandon said they were going to be astronauts hearing Mr Toole stalk If they decide to they could be in in the Spate Centre since it has an expected working life of 30 years Assembly on the Space Station will begin space by and be completed in 1997 at a cost of billion Mr Toole estimated this cost will be the four partners developing the space station Canada member nations of the European Space Agency Japan and United States Canada investment in the Space station project will be just under 1 2 billion by the year 2001 stated the in a booklet on the program Most of it will be spent in Canadian industry with some going to universities involved in research Estimated return on the original investment should exceed billion along with
