Over 100 debaters from across Ontario and Quebec participated in this highly competitive event. The GDHS team of Kylie de Chastelain and Holly Kallmeyer captured first place in the senior division after having successfully defended the resolution that "The Americans should disarm their nuclear weapons". This is the first time that a debating team from Georgetown has won a university tournament. In the junior category, the team of Meghan de Chastelain and Nadiya Safonova also reached the finals, but they were narrowly defeated trying to defend the resolution that "This house would ban prescription drug advertisements". The team of Jack Britton and Erik Smith came 32nd and the team of Dryden Bailey and Chelsea Jackson placed an impressive 13th overall. Dryden Bailey received special recognition from the tournament directors having placed fourth overall out of a total of 108 debaters in the individual speaker category. Based on results so far this year, the Debate team at GDHS is stronger than ever and looks forward to defending its current title as Ontario provincial champions.
