Local residents lending a hand at winter Games Continued from pg. 1 chefs who've been selected to work in the Molson Canadian Hockey House, an 81,000-square-foot pavilion beside GM Place that will serve as hockey headquarters for the much-anticipated men's and women's tournaments. Joanne Mletzko Mletzko submitted an application and resume last March and waited several months before learning she'd been chosen to be a team event leader at the alpine skiing venue at Whistler. At Whistler, Mletzko will be in charge of a crew of over a dozen volunteers scattered amongst the race fans for crowd control and security concerns, while also ensuring that the logos of non-Olympic-sponsoring companies or organizations are not prominently displayed. Jennifer Boysen The manager of the Acton McDonald's Restaurant franchise, Boysen is among 300 of the 77,000 McDonald's employees from across Canada chosen to work at one of three temporary locations in the Vancouver athletes' village through the three weeks of competition. Christine Conte Making The Sports Network onair personalities, such as Michael Landsberg and Jennifer Hedger, look good outdoors for the cameras will be Georgetown makeup artist Christine Conte's job. She is also freelancing for ETalk and Much on Demand and expects to work 12-hour days for three full weeks. Jacqueline Sargent A marketing executive and former competitive swimmer, Sargent will be a race steward for the five alpine events at Whistler, directing traffic on the hill for athletes, coaches, support staff and spectators. Like most of the volunteers, Sargent likely won't be able to witness much of the action because of her duties and has just two days off during the Olympic competition. Annette Graydon Graydon will be stationed in the athletes' village at Whistler, serving as a concierge/troubleshooter for the competitors and their support staff, answering questions and attending to a wide range of visitors' needs.
